WHAT: MN Fall Wingnight 2015
WHEN: September 25, 26, 27
WHERE: Rebecca State Park....Sarah Creek Group Camp Site

IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU ARE INVITED!

*It is a 3 day camp out at a private site, at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford, Minnesota. You will not be charged for joining us at the group camp, but we will gladly accept what you can donate to help cover the cost of the site.

*You may arrive anytime on September 27th. Plan to camp Friday and Saturday with departure on Sunday. You don’t have to camp. In the past many people have come for a day or even a few hours. Whatever time fits your schedule you are welcome!

DIRECTIONS:
Use this link for directions. Rebecca Park is the one along the Crow River furthest to the left on the map. (Hold your cursor over the green for directions.)

This is the park map with the Sarah Creek Group Camp marked in yellow.
(Click on map to expand)

POTLUCK *Potluck will be on Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm. – please bring a dish to share! There is always a variety of food! Many people cook on site. There are no grills. There are two fire rings with grates. Bring what you need to prepare your food.

WHAT'S AT CAMP:

*NO electricity. (Bring a lantern if you have one.)

*A water pump is located on site. There is a latrine building without running water.

*There are some out buildings to use for cooking and shelter from wind, rain or snow should the weather be less favorable. After all it is MN!

*Picnic tables, yes. BYO chairs.

*LOTS OF BWCA.COM FRIENDS TO SHARE STORIES WITH!!!

PADDLING:

*Lake Rebecca is very canoe friendly. No motorized boats, electric only. Feel free to bring your canoes or kayaks and your fishing gear.

HOUSEKEEPING REMINDERS-

*Please Leave no Trace!

*You are responsible for yourself, your family and your guests when it comes to keeping a clean camp. This includes the latrine building and things left (tossed) in the woods. (Sounds like a no-brainer but. . . .)

*Recycling bins are available for all recyclables.

*Garbage cans are on site so you don't need to pack-it-out.
ANOTHER NOTE-
If you are someone who wants to go to bed early or sleep in late, it is recommended you camp away from the fire pits. Socializing tends to go on around the fire pits both late into the night and early in the morning.
RSVP:

We would like a idea on the number of people planning to attending.
How many? Camping or not? What will you bring for potluck?

Feel free to ask any questions if something was missed!

Was really hoping to make it this fall, but as usual, work gets in the way. Have to work all weekend in order to be able to leave the 28th for our Clearwater trip!

I'm hoping to make a short appearance. I'll have to fit it in around 2 soccer games and basketball tryouts and I won't know which day/times those are until later.

Fortunately I will miss it because I will be in either the BW or Q for a week!

Sounds fun! Not sure if we will make it - or perhaps just a nice day trip to meet some of the folks who made our first BWCA trip the easiest thing in the world! ;-)

Dena and I will be there Friday night and most of Saturday, then heading to the BW on Wednesday night.

Jan is correct. One of the other group camps was closed for the season so that put more pressure on the sites that remained open. I called the first day we could make reservations. By the time I got through Marshview had been reserved. Sorry!

Wow! The idea of attending an actual real live, genuine Wing Nite has always been on my bucket list, but I live on the Carolina coast. Too far to travel.

So , here is my opportunity. I was planning a 14 day solo, entering the BWCA/Q on September 19 and coming out two weeks later, in early October.

Here's my dilemma: Do I cut my trip short to finally meet all the fine BWCA.com folks and check "Wing Nite" off my bucket list? Or, do I pass up Wing Nite and keep my original schedule?

Hmmm ... let me think...

Any suggestions???

Just throwin this out there....anyone willing to pick up two people at the airport on Saturday and bring them to the wingnight? It would be me and my lady with our gear....we are heading up to canoe land after that I can have somebody come get us on Sunday for my prearranged schedule.

08/18/2015 09:54PM
I plan on coming in either late Friday or Saturday for sure. While I generally avoid groups my connections with others on this board have always left me feeling good. I had conflicts and missed last year, but have really enjoyed tagging wing night to a BWCA trip and will do so this year. See you there...

08/20/2015 10:36AM
Will there b any hangers attending? I would like to see a Blackbird and Blackbird XLC.

08/20/2015 12:38PM
I believe we are in the place used in previous years and there are some good hanging options. I will have by Blackbird setup and I am sure there will be lots of other set ups to look at...and boats to test paddle. I plan on bringing two fruit pies, anyone have preferences?

08/20/2015 04:48PM

Quick question. I'm planning on coming out on Saturday and spend the night. I hope to bring my teardrop trailer. My question is can you get a car back into the camp area to drop off the trailer? I was thinking the area the would be SE of the woodshed/shelter.

Yup! I've rearranged my schedule so that I'm entering the BW earlier and coming out in time to make my first Wing Nite. I'm really looking forward to meeting everybody.

I'll even try to get a shower and bring something other than leftover dehydrated meals for the pot luck.

Thinking about it for at least Friday. Might have my 10 yr old daughter in tow. Might camp, not sure. Could do a salad and maybe brownies if I get motivated. Sorry to be noncommittal. All depends on work stuff and our family schedule that weekend. Sounds like another fantastic wingnite campout and thanks to you and everyone for organizing!

Ended up that Little Duckling's game is also in Isanti that day and at 10:00. Sweet! We do not have to "divide and conquer"and I get to see her play also!

Is the fastest way between Big Lake and Isanti cutting through Zimmerman on 4 or through the Refuge on 9? google maps shows only a 3 minute difference. Or maybe more importantly... which way is easier to follow along :) ? When I was coaching HS Baseball the "good " bus driver always cut through Zimmerman.

If I can make it, I'd like to bring my homebuilt teardrop trailer too. I volunteered to help with trail building on the North Country Trail in Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge that Saturday, so if it's cancelled/postponed, I'll try to make it down too. Be nice to put faces to names.

Heading out that Sunday for 8 days...somewhere. Debating either some backpacking in the Porkies and some car camping in the UP of Michigan to see the waterfalls and take lots of pictures, A late season BWCA canoe trip or a trip to NW Minnesota to notch the few MN state parks we have not been to(Big Bog, Old Mill, Lake Bronson,, Zippel Bay and Franz Jevne). Actually kind of like the choices but in any case I will try to make it to the wing night(weekend) as I have really wanted to attend in the past but just hasn't worked out yet. Might as well leave for our trip from there, don't ya think? Love to see those of you I have met and make some new acquaintances from this great community. Keep you posted...

We will (hopefully) be finishing up our fall BWCA trip that weekend (plan on exiting the 28th). So a 'no go' for us. Perhaps next spring???

Have fun!

It never fails. Whether spring or fall, Wing Night weekend always seems to coincide with a Magic: the Gathering pre-release weekend. That's a hobby my wife and I share with our kids. Am I doomed to miss all of these?

There's your answer! One apple pie please! Cherry or blueberry are other suggestions. Sounds good!

So who's all coming?

You guys have a great time and take a lot of pics! I am going out west for a week to celebrate my anniversary. Destination Mt Rushmore then Yellowstone. I will try and post pics also. I will be there in spirit. Pete

09/24/2015 12:08PM
Darn, was hoping to share more stories with you Pete. Yellowstone is nice, though. They rent kayaks and paddling over the bubbling hot springs is kinda cool.

Have a great time everyone and take lots of pictures. I was hoping I could make it but our friend gave us his comped suite at Grand Casino Hinckley so that's where we will be headed this weekend. Hard to turn down a free hotel stay.

09/25/2015 02:17AM
Can't make it either. Got to work. Enjoy all and maybe "Bigfoot" will show up one night around the camp fire?? Weather looks picture perfect on SAt--- maybe a hint too warm?? Upper 70's with a south wind 10-15mph..

"Want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans."

Have been planning to come but must put it off to a future Wingnight.

Too many commitments in too little time.

Plus, really wanted to experiment with how to make Tater Tot Hot Dish.

Apple pie, check. Dutch oven and makings for shepherds pie, check. Gear for a great week in the BWCA, check. Proper attitude, check.

Time to pull out and pick up ice, gas and hit the road. See you folks at wing this afternoon.

09/25/2015 10:46AM
Will be on the road in about 7 hours, unless I can slip out of work earlier.

09/25/2015 11:21AM

I sure hope that spit fire Souldad is hanging out this weekend. My fangs are salivating!
Looking forward to seeing that little devil! Been waiting a long time for those chops! I mean, it's been a few years since I'v seen that fellow! Once in an eclipse, ey?

Hey folks,

We're not going to make it unfortunately. Our family weekend is too packed, one child is running a bit of a fever and tomorrow is jammed with kid-activities as well. I travel to the East Coast on Monday so it looks like we'll just have to stay home....and eat those brownies! I owe you all one. Hope it's a great gathering (as usual) of good folks, chatter and refreshments.

Thanks for putting up with my little prank on SoleDad. It was great to meet all of you! I know this weekend is very dear to Matt and I'm happy we were able to be a part of it! Great people, delicious potluck (loved seeing the ice-cream being made and tasting puffballs for the first time), bantering around the fire on some gorgeous Autumn evenings & tenting under the stars was all delightful! Thank you!
