The night of June 16, 2015...

WHO....Whoever can get a permit and get to the lake on the dates to be revealed later. No daytrippers (campers only)...we will gather in the evening.

WHAT...It will be an informal meeting of tough and hardy travelers, where stories and information will be told. Knowledge, that has been earned, and should continued to be earned.

WHERE...Right where the arrow (sorry, I kind of clipped an edge off my arrow) is pointing

WHEN....It will be June 16 2015...when bugs are bad, and so are the voyageurs.

WHY...Because the best information should be earned. Because exploring those no-name lakes makes for great adventure. Because I want to meet other bushwhackers and hear where they've been, and tell them where I've been, and exchange great stories.

How...Just get there

Sounds exciting Stumpy. Hope for those that wish to attempt Allan Creek as a route to this lake the beavers have been kind in the last couple years. Last I heard Allan Creek wasn't much fun to paddle err. I mean slog through. :) Best bet would be from the Poobah direction through Bernice in my humble opinion.

Wanted to go to Poohbah around that time anyway, why not... No pain no gain!!

Love this concept and tradition. I won't be going - think I will never set foot in canoe country again in June, lol.

I plan to be there. I'll be wearing a tie.

If you've never done a 1/2 mile bushwhack, be prepared for a hell of an adventure.

02/24/2015 07:54AM
Darn it, this always seems to coincide with my father son fishing trip and no way my dad will do this.

Can't believe this is the third Bushwhackers Jamboree already. Good luck to those that attempt the trip!

This sounds like it should be a good way for me to remember why I never go into the north woods in the summer. I spent the last 10 years out west, bugs never a problem. I'm back, a friend told me about this and we plan to make it. Is there some where I can read about past Jamborees? The search thing leads me to very little.

My gear is being up dated to ultralight as much as possible. Working on myself, a pound is a pound, it all adds up. I have avoided the bug months for many years. I'm sure this will remind me why. My friend and I will be there or have fun trying. I'm leaving fishing gear at home in exchange for more camera gear. Looking forward to meeting the others that make it or along the trail.

Is there a head count of those who are attempting? I and my friend makes 2, being young, only in our 60's, we should have no trouble making it. I guess I should start packing.

06/05/2015 11:44PM
Make that early 60's??

06/20/2015 06:53PM
So. Who all made it there? And which way did you all go in?

06/20/2015 09:20PM
I'm already interested in next year. Will date and lake be disclosed in December again?

06/20/2015 09:23PM
Pretty sure this is a 5 year event. 2020 it is!

06/20/2015 09:39PM
Ziibi and I day tripped out of Poobah and met up with Magicpaddler. We bushwhacked approximately one half mile through some nasty stuff. We entered through the northwest side of Allan.

I tried to make it, but did not cover as much distance as I thought I would. I am too used to paddling a tandem. But, for a first solo I had a great time.

As far as Jean lake. Once I realized I was not going to cover the distance I had planned, I made it a leisurely trip. Also, my back issues required my to stop and stretch every hour. Found an awesome site on jean and laid over there.

Good for you to give it a shot! And to make lemonade when it didn't work out. Sounds like a fabulous time.

I was in Quetico with my 13 year old daughter. If we could have made Poohbah by the 3rd day, I'd have gone for it.
With a new job & little vacation time, including family was a must & trumped any individual Jamboree plans. My daughter was willing, but early on I could see she wasn't up to it. We went up to McIntyre. Had a good trip.

My trip coming up already hit a snag. Wait until you hear how plans changed. This should be good. Stay tuned!

Sounds like your trip changed for the better stumpy. Good Luck on the new job. Way to go on the family time. Family is what it's about! Especially with the kids... And for me now it's grandkids... Just met number seven.

I got to and actually camped on Bernice. Nice little site there on the island. No fireplace, but still nice and level.
Next morning I woke up, the Tuesday of the meetup, and paddled to where the bushwack into No-Name would have started. I hiked into the bush a bit then decided no. The next day I would have had to bushwack out and then do the Memory Lane Portages for the second time. So, I decided to say no.
Great trip though. Thank you to Stumpy for motivating me with this quest to finally get into the Q. Beautiful land, so much more then the BWCA, and I love the BWCA.

Glad you had a good trip. You have only a couple of years left with your daughter as a little girl. Do as much with her as you can!

First I would like to say the lake is no longer unnamed, on my maps it is Magic Lake. He made it in with his gear and canoe. Buster and I made a decent effort but fell short of getting enough gear there to spend the night. We under estimated the time it would take. My hat is off to MP, and yes I was a bit concerned about his return, there was no easy route. I have a few photos, and if MP will allow I will try to post when I get things in the rest of my life a little more settled. It was a good challenge and it brought 2 old paddling
buddies together for the first time in a long time. I will add so of my trip comments along with photos when I get the time. In 5 years, who knows, I won't be 70 yet. ;-D

My hat's off to you Magic paddler. I thought for sure there would be a good turnout. I would have joined you if it was in Aug. or Sept. those are the only months I can currently miss work.
