I took some video of Curtain Falls, from both the top and below.
couldn't figure out how to put videos in the report, so here are a few I took, and a bonus of Dahlgren upper falls

I enjoyed your trip report so much! Great photos—and while I sympathize about your camera, I also like your attitude. In the grand scheme of things, it is only “stuff” and I’m glad it didn’t spoil your adventure too much. (Thank God for a backup camera, eh? I hope your Nikon was insured.)

Haven’t been on some of this route, but could particularly appreciate the time on Crooked and at Curtain Falls.

Thank you for sharing your trip with us.

Thanks for sharing 30smoke, I really enjoyed it. I’m not sure why, but the Stuart lake area holds a special place in my heart. It’s magical. I’ve paddled past the campsite on Rush Lake multiple times and always say to myself, “next time I’m going to camp at that island site”. Then I don’t because the pull to go to Iron Lake is always stronger than my desire to check out that island site. lol. One of these days it’ll happen.

Sorry to hear about your camera. It’s not fun having expensive gear get ruined. Keep on paddling!

I was reading your trip to get some information on Stuart and Iron Lakes. When your trip turned to Crooked and you stayed at Site #1879, that's when I entered the twilight zone reading your story. We had been there for 3 days at site 1879 before you arrived, we had left just the morning before. That is one of our favorite sites to go too, there is a beautiful sandy beach when the lake isn't flooded! When we arrived at 1879 that year the camp was absolutely covered with twigs, leaves and other debris from the high water carrying all that stuff up and into the camp area. We had to do about a full hour of "shoveling" with our paddles to clean the place up! Glad it was enjoyed soon after!

If that was your first time at 1879, here's what it looks like to normal water levels!

Ryan, it was a short layover having battled wind all the way from Iron, but it was a nice and we enjoyed it for that night, but after coming from the Island site on Iron, all I can say is that whatever site I'm on in the BWCA is my favorite Site! I didn't get many pictures, as the battery on my backup camera was running low, and you probably read that my good camera went swimming! But yes #1879 was wonderful, and I even climbed up the hill by the end of camp which was very enjoyable. We got some nice campsites on this trip, would have been nice to spend 3 days on all of them!

Enjoy Stuart/Iron - Stuart could be a 7 day trip by itself! I really love Stuart, and the Stuart River is on of my favorites. I keep wanting to go back, but there are so many places I have not been yet!
