Missing: tortillas and a tube each of peanut butter and jelly, and powdered freeze dried yogurt.

I made these bags from used tyvek envelopes and filled some with food. We've got breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks (quite a few due to the kids), desserts (solely due to kids, mostly because I let them each pick one at Canoecopia and to have an activity to do if we're stuck under the tarp in the rain), drinks (bigger than what I usually have due to hot cocoa packets for the kids), and condiments. (There are bags pictured that are not for food.)

Total current weight: 17 pounds. I will add probably 1 pound more. Maybe 2 if I add in some chocolate for me. ;-)

Comments on the volume and/or weight? The size of the biggest bags is just about the size of your typical tyvek envelope. The littlest one would fit a can of soda height-wise.

looks good to me..you of course know what your family will not only eat but want as comfort foods and snacks.it looks like it will all go in a Duluth pack along with a cook kit without any problem.the "art work" is a very great idea with kids along, keeps things "normal" and not like some survival outing. could you show us a dinner pack outside the storage bag? i would like to see the bulk of a dinner,i think you said you were drying meat and stuff to make your own rather that store bought freeze dry.

I have mountain house freeze dried ground beef and chicken in foil packs for meat. I have dried my own meat in the past but not this year.

Ok this is going to get heavier. Forgot I haven't packed up the hamburger yet because I didn't want to open the can until I had to. I will add a couple summer sausages, too.

I can show what's in the bags tonight.

Look carefully at the Snacks bag. See the little thing that's circled with an arrow to it? That's the bwca.com flying moose. I received t-shirts and bandanas in that envelope.

The words by it say, "Go bwca moose!"

;-)

There's nothing like a good moose!

Oh and I thought of a use for one of the other stuff sacks: we'll use one to put our day-use foods in. I will keep the lunches and snacks in their own bags, but each day will select what we're going to have that day and put it in the day bag, to be kept handy.

One thing I didn't do for this trip is plan very many no-cook lunches. We will have PB&J on tortillas and one freezer bag meal that is no-cook, but the others require at least hot water. I am not sure if we will like this, as we'll have to keep the stove handy, as well as the day bag of food. BUT, perhaps our older daughter can have only that in a pack...that could work well. (plus maybe the rain gear or extra kid clothes or something.)

OK...here are way too many pictures. ;-)

Breakfast pack:

Contains 6 single-serving breakfasts for the adults, and one likely triple-serving breakfast (cousous, quinoa, or grapenuts cereal, with fruit and nuts). Also I think 8 or 10 packages of instant oatmeal.

Here is the bag closed up:

Lunch pack:

Contains:

Vegetable beef soup (from Bear Creek soup, cut into a smaller serving size), which we will have with the veggie bacon salad (from trailcooking.com).

Cheesy rice (included solely as an "extra" if needed, or because the 3 year old won't eat what we're having, from trailcooking.com)

Isle Royale Salmon (thanks to The Lorax)

Southwest chicken corn wraps (trailcooking.com, and a no-cook recipe)

and

Hamburger cheesy veggie wraps (again, trailcooking.com)

btw, when I say trailcooking.com, it's either from the website or the cookbook.

Dinner!

Contains:

Cheeseburger mac (trailcooking.com)

Quesadillas (? not sure where I got the recipe, I think on this website, modified to meet our needs. I think it was a fresh recipe that I am adapting for dried foods. It will need 12 tortillas and 8 string cheese sticks added.)

Upside down sloppy joes (from a cookbook by Marrone, can't remember the name right now...thanks SunCatcher for the dried tomato sauce!)

Spaghetti (hamburger helper variety)

Chili mac (trailcooking.com, I think)

Snacks!

Contains what you see there. ;-)

Drinks!

Desserts

Campfire apple crisp from the Marrone cookbok

and

two Cache Lake puddings and a banana cream pie

HOWEVER...

I just remembered some other goodies I had stashed away (thanks WCD) and a couple Cache Lake fry breads that were also a gift...must see if I need to work those into it. Will wait until it's time to leave. Also, I will be adding the dried burger, cheese, and tortillas and PB&J.

I might be doing another trip this year and we will do other camping, so whatever happens, we will use it up.

I LOVED USING THESE STUFF SACKS! Best gear addition ever. OK maybe not quite, but they rocked. Kept my stuff organized, kept it clean, and it made it easy to ask the kids to get things from the food pack since it's written right on there what's in each bag.

A couple of my draw strings came out; I will have to fix that problem. I guess I made the holes for the strings too big.
