Didn't sleep well and the pancakes for breakfast were a bit styrofoamy. I'll blame the beers. Got a tow to the Chippewa Inn on an island on the Canadian side - currently abandoned other than Erik the caretaker. Sounds like they're revamping the accommodations. Atikokan Air (de Havilland Beaver) arrived within the departure window. Some haze in the air but seems to be clearing. Loaded up the Beaver piloted by a vet instructor Canuck and an Aussie learning the ropes. Both seemed interested in our route as few do it and told us the water was higher and flowing faster than they'd ever seen. The vet pilot was concerned that many folks were ill prepared for it - this was the first portent.

Seeing the wilderness from the air was what I had wanted - elevation changes, roaring falls, moose, rivers and creeks flowing in and out of lakes and muskeg. The Canuck had permission to land in Batchewaung, so we changed course in flight. Nym isn't a wilderness lake so we didn't feel too bad cutting off a 200-rodder into Batch. As it was, the dock he had planned to land at was damaged due to ice out, so we water-loaded. We said farewell and the drone of the prop was the last man-made sound we'd hear for awhile.

Fishing is good. We've already landed lakers and walleye, and a few northern and smallies. Made shore lunch on Batchewaung Bay on an island. Joined by a breeding pair of bald eagles who gladly cleaned up the fish remains. Mosquitoes are bad but not epochal. Set up camp on a nice island on Jesse. Light breeze on the rock point are keeping the bugs at bay. Hope to sleep well.

Route: Batchewaung; Little Batchewaung Bay; Batchewaung Bay; Pickerel; Maria; Jesse
