We must have worked hard yesterday because we sleep in until 9:00. It could be we were up late the night before messing with the keys too? We make some fried eggs and bacon and leisurely break camp. We are slow and don’t get going until noon, but hey it is supposed to be a vacation right? We work our way through the 3 portages and the beaver dam up to William.

Just like Darky, William is completely abandoned. We re-visit an island campsite that we stayed at in 2006. Someone since had built a huge picnic table at the site. It was so comfortable we decided to stay.

We head out and fish later in the afternoon. There is a nice reef down the middle of the lake that holds some fish in about 15’ of water. Surprisingly I catch more fish trolling crank baits in 25-35’ of water to and from the reef. A lot of the fish are suspended over this deep water, must be feeding on ciscoes. I catch a nice 20 inch walleye (the smallest of the trip) and we decide to have a walleye dinner. I cannot find the stringer or the fillet knife---I think I forgot to pack it after the whole key thing. Oh well this walleye gets a reprieve from his dinner sentence and gets to swim again. I feel so stupid for telling everyone I forgot 2 essential items necessary for a fish meal, but it is too funny not to share.

We settle for chicken and dumplings, Merlot, and SMORES.
