Ice Caves?

Does anybody know of the whereabouts' of any other ice caves in the BWCA or Quetico. 10+ years ago we visited a ice cave NE of Magnetic Lake. It was in early August and a lot of ice still remained. I'd like to see/photograph others if anybody knows of any.

An older acquaintance of ours used to talk about having a scotch on the rocks in the BWCA from an ice cave he discovered. He would never say where it was and took his secret to the grave. Wish I knew- I'd love to drink a toast to him!

argghhhh I would love to find one of these. Although I am probably a bit too late showing up in Mid August to try and find one.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

Don't know of any in the BW, but in Banning State Park there are a few you can catch in mid-May. Just take the path that follows the Kettle River and keep an eye out.

I've never even heard or thought of ice caves outside of a glacier. Sounds super cool, I'm going to keep an eye out now. One more thing to look for while in the BW :)

i don't know of any caves but the deep,narrow ravines on the east side of the lower part of Agnes Lake in the Q will hold ice in the first week of June if the winter has been hard..

it's just a level trail thru the woods.

I remember reading somewhere, a while back, that there was an ice cave between Thomas and Disappointment somewhere....I think in the Jitterbug area....I wish I could remember where I read it...

I have been in this area but have never tried to find it..

I didn't realize there were any around. I visited one in Arizona which was pretty unbelievable considering their climate.

Nature Talk- usually just a crack in the rocks with a North exposure that doesn't get sun on it...

They are talking about regular caves (or as gutmon points out, sometimes just a sheltered crack.) which may contain ice well into the summer, not caves made from ice.

I'm going to keep an eye out for these. Would be really fun to find one when I'm up there. And I can certainly say that it would be a welcome way to savor a bit of scotch.
