I am heading to Quetico, entering Pickerel on June 17th. I currently have a CCS 1.1 10 x 12 Tundra tarp as my hammock tarp. I also have a Noahs 9 tarp that weighs, with all cordage and stakes, 38 oz.
I am debating whether or not to take this along, I think it would be nice to have, but I'm not sure if it will be worth the extra weight. I will have a better idea of my pack weights as I get closer to the trip, but I will be double portaging, and neither pack will be heavy, so I am debating what "comfort" items I might bring along.

So, the question is:
Do any of you bring a second tarp when going solo and hanging? If you do, tell me what you use it for. If you don't, then do you store all your stuff under the hammock, remove the hammock if sitting during rain, etc.?

Just curious what others do...

A lot depends on your tripping stile. I would prefer to have a larger hammock tap rather than 2 tarps this would give me more dry space for the weight. The only reason I can see for 2 rather than larger is if you wanted tarps in different locations (one by the water one back in the woods for your hammock). For me camp is just a place to spend the night.

I did a 10 day trip and brought two tarps. Both were cantenary cut flies and one was a Kielty 9. With their lack of coverage I was glad to have two tarps.

A couple years later I did a 30 day trip and brought one CCS 10x10 tarp. I got along fine with it. A 10x12 would have been better but rarely did I find myself wishing I had a second tarp. If I was forced to make camp early due to weather I'd just set up the tarp for cooking and sitting out of the weather and then setup the hammock at bed time. If stuck for a full day due to weather it was easy enough to setup and take down the hammock as necessary.

I think of my hammock tarp and "camp" tarp as separate and distinct. I bring both on a paddling trip. Backpacking I don't though.

A bit more info...
I have McDougall Lake as my destination, and it is possible I will base camp there and do some exploring, and really get to know the lake. It is also possible that I will move on after 2 nights. My plan is to get there, then decide. It is a 7 night trip, so I have a few days to play with.
I also got a bishop bag for my hammock and bug net that will make it pretty easy to remove the hammock to better utilize the tarp. Last trip I set up the hammock next to the water at every campsite, and seemed to get blown around every night when the storms rolled through. I had great views of the storms though! Rethinking the hammock location makes me think a second tarp would be nice, especially on a rainy day.

If you were going to be moving all day every day I'd say forget it at home, but since you're already going to be double portaging AND plan on having a multi-day camp I'd say bring the second tarp. I've gone both ways and prefer to not cooking under my sleep setup. I think it also depends on the weather you expect. Another way to decide is the weather. If the extended forecast looks promising leave that second tarp in your car, but if looks like you could have several questionable days it would be more attractive to bring it along.

I carry my Noah 12 all year. I like the extra size and it allows me to not worry about coverage. When group camping we do, as a group, bring one extra tarp. That's used for "whatever" and if an individual happens to need it.

When tripping in the heat of summer, I will often bring two tarps. One to cover my hammock and a second tarp for shade. I've also found that a single Noah's Tarp 12' provides plenty of shade if weight and space are an issue.

I have the ENO HouseFly Rain Tarp with "doors on both ends. If I put it in porch mode, there is plenty of room for my hammock and an REI flex lite chair so no need for a second tarp. During the evening or when it rains, my pack goes under my hammock. never had a problem with it getting wet. If it is going to rain, I may toss a couple of logs under there to elevate my pack off the ground. I also have a door mat that I cut off an old tent. I use that to stand on when I get up in the morning while I get my boots on. In heavy rains, I use it to cover my pack.

Thanks for all the replies. Since my trip may end up with staying at the same site for a few days, I have decided to bring along the second tarp for this trip.
