I have been on the Ely side only once since the blowdown. With all,the fires etc. I have lost track of conditions in the area. As a hammock camper, are there areas we should avoid? I am thinking going in Baker and up to Omega, Or Lake One to Alice or up to Ima.

Did the number chain to alice 2 yrs ago. We went from the entry to upper Insula on the first day and didn't have trouble finding trees after that. Pretty bleak through the burn, though. North Hudson up into fire lake has trees.

You will find good sites in the burn on Lake 1, 2, and 3. Lake 4 and bottom half of Hudson are bad for hammocks. Top half of Insula and on are Ok. we were there 2016 and the kids had no trouble finding hammock sites in the areas I just mentioned.
