My question is not BWCA related, but hammock user necessary! To go "hang" in National and State Parks, are special straps needed? We currently use Kammock and ENO strap systems. Are they Ok?

It depends on the park. While a vast majority of state and national parks permit hammocks, some do not. For example, national parks with extremely small trees in their camping areas may ban hammocks. Florida state parks now require 2" straps.

Best bet is to check with the park ahead of time.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just ordered 2" straps! I didn't find any more strict regulations than the 2" straps - as you said some states and parks do not allow hammocks at all.

If your are interested, I have a spreadsheet of hanging spots in North Carolina. It includes national and state parks plus other spots.

I just spotted this thread on HammockForums.net: 50 state hammock project

Problem is that the findings are not summarized. Instead you have to work your way through every single post

Thanks of the offer - but, I am looking west to the Rockies, California, Minnesota.

Most allow hanging but prefer you use the 2" straps over ropes due to less damage to the trees. Even 1" straps are better than ropes.
