Newbie here...Do you guys keep your tarps in snake skins?

I have a Kelty Noah 12' as my first starter tarp, it doesn't fit in my Hennessy XL snake skins (my hammock currently is in those).

I have experimented with a DIY Loofah snakeskin but it isn't durable enough.

So what do those of you do with largish heavy tarps do? Just a straight stuff sack? Double ended Stuff Sack, Bishop Bag, Skins + Bishop bag?

To add to this... what do you do about inevitable moisture in the morning when you are breaking camp? Do you do a mesh bag outside your main pack? Or perhaps a separate Waterproof sack for IN the pack?

Snake skins are designed for the hammock fly, not general purpose camping tarps. As you know the snake skins can also be used for the hammock itself, but I personally have my hammock in a bishop bag and just have snake skins for my fly. For your general purpose camping tarp you can use a silnylon stuff sack or the larger Cooke Custom Sewing Ridgeline Lean Stuff Sack

For a Noah I think a regular stuff sack will be fine.
If you have one that is waterproofed that is even better.
I have a mesh pocket on outside of the pack and it gets the wet tarp.
Or if you have water bottle pockets on outside of pack, those work also.
Wet things stay out of my pack.

I think waterproof stuff sack is the way to go. My pack doesn't have water bottle / external storage otherwise that would be ideal.

I think another main reason why I want skins or something similar for the tarp is the ability to stow it away / roll it up when the weather is fair. Secondary would be the ease of deployment with the RL being always attached to the tarp and never having it in the dirt while setting up.

More tinkering to come.

I use snake skins on my superfly only for ease of deployment, and I also have a small silnylon bag that I stuff them into in case they are wet in the morning.

I do like looking out in the night at the stars if I can but can pull it out and have a tarp in no time at all when needed.

Mine are Mountain Goat with pockets.

unshaven man, I looked at the CCS Stuff Sack and think it might work well for my 12x12 Noah. Do you think it is large enough to hold the Warbonnet and HG full sized underquilt? The hammock and underquilt now fit nicely into a 13L Sea to Summit dry bag which has a 25 inch circumference and 15 inch length. Thanks.

Agree with KevinL on keeping the tarp in the skins to only deploy if it starts getting wet... or windy. Sleeping under the stars is awesome!

I use mesh skins on tarps for deployment/stowage, and then I stuff it all into a stuff sack. Start stuffing from the middle of the tarp and leave the ends on top for quick re-deployment out of the bag.

Stuffsack is silnylon so if the tarp is wet it's not a big deal and doesn't get everything else wet. You might think you could just bungee the mesh skins to the outside of the pack to dry the tarp but it doesn't work. You really have to just hang up a wet tarp to dry when you get a chance.

I would think the CCS Ridgeline Lean stuff sack could accommodate your Warbonnet and Hammock Gear underquilt. However, I think what you are craving is a Lazy Slug Tube.

I have a CCS Lean stuff sack and the CCS tarp stuff sack. Think I'll try to see how the Blackbird, HG top & under quilts would fit in the lean stuff sack. I know that they will, but don't think it will work with my stock strap suspension without either going to whoopie's or major alteration to the stuff sack.

Thanks guys, I figured I would shift from the stock nylon strap to some Amsteel line to accommodate the stuff sack idea. Easier than releasing at one end and stuffing until I get to the other end. Still looking for easier and faster, like some others I know.

Faster and easier to me is Dutchware kevlar tree straps attached to whoopie slings with a dutch buckle

Well got my new whoopies installed today and thought that I would see how everything goes inside of the CCS Lean stuff sack. I have the WBBB along with HG 20 deg Incubator & 20 deg Burrow inside as well as the tree straps. UC installed and top quilt inside of the WBBB. A little tight. Oh well it was worth a shot.

for my 1.9 oz CCS 12x12 I made skins from regular ripstop nylon. It is strong enough to hold the tarp. I do make sure the tarp is not left in it too long if wet. I'm contemplating making a set using .9 oz netting.
