Thanks for the trip report! I have had the pleasure of seeing several parts of the Wabakimi area, but have not been in from the west side. Have also had a stomach bug on one Quetico trip; it can sure make things difficult. People talk about bears, but I think road-food can be pretty risky, too...

Where did you buy your camping permits for Wabikimi? You can buy crown land permits almost anywhere. FRED
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fourtune to remember the ones do, and the eyesight to tell the differance.

Fred - I just called the park superintendent. He took my application and credit card payment over the phone. Then he emailed me the permit.

Mr. Lawr says that permits should be available online next year.

It's a bugger getting sick out there. I had a bout my first night out this year. I'm thinking it was something I ate but can't pin point what it was. Solos are all about being busy in my opinion. Glad you got feeling better. You mentioned wanting to buy topography maps on the way up. Did you have any maps? How much planning were you able to do?

Ben - I had the Wabakimi Project maps for the whole area. I also made my own topo maps from the Ontario website. As for the road trip up there I used Google maps and zoomed in close for the 702 road portion. That means that I had several 8.5x11 pages showing fairly short stretches of that road, but with good detail.
I'll email you a sample of one of my Ontario website maps.

"Is ‘dis what you great American education produces?!?! "
Canadians, if you talk to them long enough, nearly every one of them will eventually say something similar.
Usually, it only takes a couple minutes
nice report BTW

Thanks...It was a surreal experience.
I was completely fatigued and when he started in I just looked at him for a couple seconds.
I was quite surprised at being berated that way.
My surprise was amplified by the fact that I was trying do business with the man.
I just did not comprehend that a potential customer would be treated like that.
