We traveled through around the 3rd week of Sept 2002. I believe Moose Bay was very shallow, only a few feet deep. The tuck river was navigable with a couple carry over spots near 'rapids'. We were able to float through with no problem on at least one. Moose Bay looked to be a nice wildlife viewing area. We did see 2 adult wolves near the portage trail on the Horse River the next day. My wife had the chance to see them a little closer, when they came and checked her out at the trail. She was a little upset, as I had the camera...Always carry 2 from now on!!

Ditto,

No wolves but we saw a couple deer on the Tuck.

We passed by in the spring and it was passable. Smallies in the rapids! Robinsin lake was nice but we didn't fish it much and Craig lake is a little gem.

Thanks for the great replies. I to have a story about animal encounters. When I was in high school back in the early 70's we were at Moose Bay in Quetico and were chased from our camp by a black bear. That morning we saw a bear down by the water and that night while we were preparing supper the bear came up the trail and entered our campsite. We were banging pans together and such but it did not make any difference. There were about 10 of us. Does this suprise anyone that this bear would not be frightened off by the noise. I will never forget this. We had to spend the night at another sight with no gear. Our campsite sat on a cliff like setting. We will travel back to Moose Bay in June 2006. Also had good luck at Tuck River back then. We used small frogs to catch smallies. Dodger.
