We are planning our first trip to the BWCA and I was wondering if any women have gone while they were newly pregnant. Is there anything I would really need to be concerned about? I am very healthy and active. I was not sick at all with my first 2 pregnancies. I realize it will be alot of hard work. I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

My wife went when she was 5 months pregnant. You just have to be careful and know your limitations.

I went this last fall with my friends pregnant wife. Nothing to be too concerned about except I would filter the water and even boil it. She was fine except for a little motion sickness one afternoon. We didn't push too deep in either in case something did happen. If you have been pregnant before you should be accustomed to your body and not push it too hard and be prepared for your cravings.

Good luck,

Baker

I went camping early on and it was easy. I don't get morning sickness though and I was tired. Remember that most filters uses iodine (which is bad) and it is very bad to get a water born virus when pregnant (you can't take the medication to be healed). We use a First Need filter it doesn't use iodine. Don't carry the canoe (docs don't want you caring more than 35lbs) and watch your footing (falls on the stomach are very bad). I love it though at at 7 1/2 months pregnant I am looking forward to a winter camping trip. Enjoy!

My husband replied about me going to Quetico at 5 months pregnant. A few things to keep in mind: 1) I was much hungrier than usual--bring extra food. 2) Make sure your husband knows that you're going to need to stop more often as the baby is sitting on your bladder. 3) Don't worry--your baby is very well protected. I was standing on a pretty slanted (wet) rock, and slipped and fell pretty hard. Not a problem. You're a little more tired, but it's probably the best (health-wise) thing you can do while you're pregnant. It's much better than sitting in a chair at work!
