Anybody out there have one of these hanging solar showers? I'm thinking about getting one to make some week+ trips more enjoyable. I'm wondering about brands if you can comment.
Thanks, Sag

We took one on our last trip this past Summer and it was a big hit. I didn't use it as I prefer the "go jump in the lake" bathing process and tend to smell like a wild man of the woods. Mightr explain why nobody wants to be my tent partner. The other members of the group that did use it found it to be a very pleasant bathing experience, refreshing and pleasingly warm. I don't know what brand it was.

I went on a trip in September where a friend brought one last year. I also usually just jump in the lake if I desire to clean up, but some trips (early in May and Late Sept) that is pretty cold. It was nice to have along. We filled it up one morning when we were going for a day trip. We put it out on the rocks in the sun. When we returned we had warm, but not hot water to shower in. If you are careful how much you use you can get 2-4 people showered out of the size he had. I think it held 2-3 gallons. Not sure I would pack one myself as I like to pack light, but I sure did not mind using it that day in September.

Solar Showers work well - I think mine is a SunShower - anyhow it includes in built in thermometer and hold enough for two people to shower if you are careful. On a bright sunny Summer day you can have nearly hot water in an hour or so.

A lightweight luxury.

I used one last summer w/ my family. It was great. To get the water warm we filled it and let it sit in the sun must of the day and took a shower after the chores were done in the evening. My wife and I were both able to take a shower before the water ran out. Worked good and will use it again.

I've been a thunkin on this shower thing.

If you do a couple of things you can get the water warmer on any given day.

1) Lay the bag on an insulated mat of the rockes or ground.
2) Place a second clear plastic cover over it so that the air doesn't take away heat.

That said, I never take a shower in the BWCA.

The thing is I took my wife to the BWCA when she was pregant...interesting trip. It was really like going by myself, put having to paddle for 2. O.K. 2.1 but I digress.

I came back in after fishing one day to the campsite in the BWCA to find my wife sitting close to the waters edge. When I asked her what was up, she said a bear had gotten into the tent. Not one to believe my wife, I asked to see. Sure enough, a part of the rain fly had a large scred marks down the side.... (I immediately said that wasn't really in the tent, but she said it counted.) When the bear saw her in the tent it took off, but not before "leaving its mark."

Not one to blame wild animals, I investigated further. A encounter with a bear did not surprise at this campsite, but into the tent?

I followed "the trail" that my wife said the bear had come down back into the woods a few hundred meters. There in the woods was a shower station. Complete with one of those black shower bags, soap, hair spray, a full length mirror, solar hair dryer, (you get the idea.) Oh, I almost forgot. I smelled strawberries.... Hymmn. Oh, yeah, my wife had been using strawberry shampoo.

So here she is, clean, pregnant, and smelling of strawberry shampoo. Betweenn the strawberries and the phermones she probably drove that poor black bear crazy.

A side note: During the trip she was pregnant with our first child. For 9 months she had morning sickness except for the time she spent in the BWCA.

Did I say I don't shower in the BWCA?
