So I got my first hammock and hung it up for the first time today to try it out. Let's just say, I'm going to like this. It's a Dutchware Argon that I got based on a ton of reading on Hammock Forums. Everyone there recommended spending less on the actual hammock and investing he money on the underquilt so I went with the advice
So what you see here was $91 to my mailbox. Not bad and boy, is it comfortable. I'm going to rig it up in the garage and put in a few nights next weekend to see what it's like spending more than an hour in it.

Nice hammock. I like that you have a structural ridge line, very important to get consistent setups.
One thing I would suggest, one your straps I see you are using a carabiner to connect to your suspension line. Get rid of the biner and use a marlin spike to connect the webbing to your suspension. Make one out of a dowel or an old tent pole. You just make a loop and insert the marlin spike, then wrap the suspension line around the spike.

Yeah, I was thinking about that but the biner is really easy. I suppose it would free up a little bit of weight because those are some heavy biners. I actually used a MSH to connect the strap to the biner because the lengths were too long. One great thing about hammocks I'm learning, there's a ton of tinkering you can do which is definitely fun. I may eventually decide to go the toggle route before the trip in August.

It doesn't come with one but I'm planning to get a Fronkey net from the Dutchware site before the trip. First I just wanted to get a feel for the hammock itself to decide if it was for me before getting the rest. Next steps include bug net, underquilt and tarp. I love having reasons to buy more stuff.

If you are getting into hanging, you've found the right place to buy stuff. Just logging on to Dutch's site will empty your wallet fast.
I got a chance to kayak a bit with Dutch down in Florida this winter. He's the genuine character. Nice guy.
