Hi,
I reserved a PMA for Weeny Lake area #1 for our trip in a couple weeks.
Has anybody been into this area and be willing to share info about these lakes? Lakes in this area are Contentment, Brigand, Lucky Finn, Nahimana, etc... Info looking for is portage trail issues, fishing, scenic, or anything else you can throw at us.

Thanks,
FISHONFISHOFF

Bogwalker and I recently made a trip into Nahimana, and I have been into Contentment in the past. I chose to go in from Thumb. There really are no portages, though I did get a feel of following an old path when I went into Contentment. Fairly steep uphill and brushy getting into Contentment, and the same at the start going into Nahimana. After that you have to wade across a grassy bog to reach navigable water. Didn't fish in either lake, so they are all there still waiting for you. There is no site left on Contentment, and the site on Nahimana is not worth staying at because it is all on a slope. The best 'flat ground' is on the small island.

Hi, I just posted a trip report on our experience at Rangeline lake on the night of the recent storm. Since the lakes you are planning to go to are near and directly north of where we were I'd certainly check with someone at the Forest Service to see what the extent of the damage was. You may get more than you bargained for ...but I hope you can do it and please post a report after you return.

I went up through Yodeler, Achundo, Rangeline,Pageant, Brigand,Contentment,Nahimana ,Lucky Finn, and back out up the Hustler R. then continued loop around through Oyster, Gebe. Finger, Fat to Slim and so forth. I stayed on Agawato the PM before heading into PMA.The water dropped so much over night I barely made it out(solo canoe, light load)because of a break in a beaver dam.I did manage to find most of Stumpy and Rangeline's rtes. Didn't find any trail from Rangeline Pond to Pageant Creek though and had to negotiate a steep cliff to the creek, which was perilous for a 66 yr. old solo(it was small comfort to know if I broke a leg I wouldn't starve, the black .flies would have eaten me alive!)Found an old blaze on tree by beaver dam going from Achundo to Rangeline but no trail. Contentment to Nahimana wasn't bad after the 1st 10 mins. it was all grassy dried up beaver pond. Nahimana to Lucky Finn was rough, found no trail. The Hustler R. I would never do again.Never saw a soul in there for 4 days. That was May of this yr. I planned on going back next May but I wouldn't recommend going in there now after the July storm it would be a mess. In fact I probably wouldn't be divulging info on Weeny L.PMA if it weren't for the storm in effect shutting the door on it. P.S. The July trip report mentions ribbons left marking portages, definitely not mine.

Thanks rjb and voyager for your input. We may have to rethink the PMA attempt. If we go into this area, it would probably be for one night only.

I camped on Posse a few years ago, and then went to Finger via the Hustler River. Cool route in the spring, wouldn't even consider it in the low water levels of fall.

Several of the guys who made the trip with me to Rangeline last year are going to attempt heading north from Rangeline to Thumb this year. Then they will circle back to Oyster where our base camp will be. Did you try to do the bushwack through Brigand/Contentment after the July 2014 storm? Info from anyone would be helpful. Thanks

RJB,
The crew went from Thumb to Contentment, spent the night, then went back to Thumb to continue the loop. The portage in and out of Contentment was the only one which required a double portage the entire trip. This was due to the downed trees. There was many smaller pike in Contentment and was very peaceful. Tell your guys we wish them good luck.
