Just found out that a group in the Quetico, on Point Lake, lost a man to a tree falling on him.
There was a doctor in the group who tried to revive him but told me that the guy died immediately. Point Lake is north of Prairie Portage, south of the Kahshahpiwi chain.
They had a satellite phone with them and called out for help. He also said that the rescue service, the Quetico ranger personnel and all the rest were so great, very professional.
This is the first I have heard of info about the storm in the Quetico, I'm guessing it won't be the last unfortunately.

Very sad that they lost a member of their crew. This weather has just gotten crazy lately. It seems all we get are big rain storms, never just a nice gentle shower anymore. Plus we get hail and high winds with it.

That's very sad. My thoughts and empathy for the surviving family and members of the group.
If I ever go that way, do not feel bad for me. Celebrate that I died doing what I love most. I would just feel bad for the members of the group, that have to deal with the tragic loss, and recovery.

The loss is not easy and I pray for his family. Chuck was the kind of man that most should strive to be. He was like a father to me. He was a simple man who loved his family and the outdoors. He was a walleye fisherman at hart but was game for anything and could always catch a fish with his go-to white grub. He introduced me to the Quetico and would never hesitate at the opportunity to fish there. I will always cherish the time I spent with him on the water, in a turkey blind, and back at deer camp. He passed on many positive traits and outdoor skills to his children, myself, and many others. For this I thank him and will always keep him in my thoughts and prayers.
Chuck, rest in peace my friend.

Mrbullzi - So sorry for the loss of your friend. Now, like when one of your group came in early, I do not really know what to say. There isn't anything any of us can say to make it any better but in a small way, please know that we do feel the loss of a fellow paddler. God Bless.

Well said analyzer and my thoughts exactly.
It's always hard to find the right words at a time like this, but I second what analyzer has stated.
Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends and may his spirit live on through them and the wilderness areas he so loved.

Mrbullzi-As others have stated, there are no words that do justice after something like this has happened. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of Chuck's other friends and family. Peace.

Chuck was my father. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.
He loved the Quetico and has been going there for 10+ years. He introduced me to it as well and I was lucky enough to take 3 trips with him.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. To say he will be missed does not do justice to the profound impact he had on all those he encountered.
I love you Dad.

I can only echo others sorrow for your loss, and add some hopes for peace and comfort with memories and stories of times shared in the wilderness. RIP Chuck.

I never knew Chuck, yet I feel very sad at the news. We had two parties out there (I believe a few days after because we had heard the bad news). Both our groups (in different directions) experienced high winds, storms, hail. One group turned back = someone broke a foot. Our group didn't plan a cut through and had to travel. We portaged in the hail. The entire time, my mind was thinking about the dangers, and the other part of me out of exhaustion was still thinking how much I loved it. We dismiss danger for what we love I guess. My prayers are for Chuck's family to later take peace in th fe thoughts that we go there, knowing the danger, and willingly accept itor the love of what we are doing there. I always say goodbye to my kids before I go - and say I love them - and if something happens to me, know I was doing what I love most.
I'm so sorry for the loss, for the crew, for his family. I pray Chuck peace in his restful state.

I myself just returned from a trip in Quetico and found out about Chuck's tragic death. Last year he was part of a group that I tripped with, we met on this forum. I too want to add words of comfort to his family, that even in the wildness of life and death there is a place of peace and comfort in God that they may know. I have attached two pictures of Chuck from last year's Quetico trip.

Those are fantastic photos - what a great legacy.
Again, so sad.
