im going into quetico from the prairie portage in about 3 weeks, i was wondering about how the whole 100$ deposit works, because me and a buddy are going to go up through agnes, to kawnipi and then go down kashapiwi. we expect it to take no more than 9 days. we did it in 10 last year really taking our time. now my problem is, we want to stop by the basswood falls. would i have to go all the way back to the prairie portage and get my deposit back right after leaving quetico, and then go to the falls so i dont loose my deposit ?

thanks

I could be wrong, but I believe the camping fees are deducted from the deposit upon entry. Since your camping fees will exceed the $100, I don't think there will be anything to get back.

I am sure Adam is right. If you are going to be in Quetico for nine days your fees will be higher than $100.00. When you stop at Prairie portage to start your trip and get your permit you will be expected to pay your camping/permit fees at that time---they will credit you for the $100.00 deposit and you will pay the difference.

Unfortunately you will not be getting any money back you will actually owe them more money.

Well worth it IMHO.

I think there are other government rentals of cabins and such which they do in Canada where they do keep the deposit as more of a security deposit. And you have to get it back later.
