With all the rain and high water in the BW/Q I am thinking how good it is to be a hanger. One experience with a downpour and the tent pad being in the flow zone was enough.
A tip I found helpful in one rain situation while hanging. I bring the camp chair under the tarp and put things in it rather than on the ground. It really works kinda like a night stand next to the bed.

I have done that before as well and I agree it works well. I have a little sil here at home and have been thinking about making a gear hammock. Anyone done this?

I've just started hanging and haven't experienced the rain yet, but from the Army days we used to dig a moat around the tent with an outlet to route the rain away. Worked well as we had no floors on our shelter halves. As for the gear, you can just string it up with rope & a garbage bag to cover it.

I picked up a gear hammock from JRB and used it on my last trip in May. I have to say it worked like a champ. The gear hammock is silnylon with a flap cover that protects what's inside. The cover has a loop if you want to attach a rope to a stake for tighter coverage. Otherwise there is a pocket inside the flap that will hold a rock or water bottle to keep it closed. I kept my clothes and misc. gear in it and had no problems at all. It comes with loops at each end so you'll need to pick up a suspension system to set it up. I had a set of whoopies sitting around collecting dust so I used those. All in all a good product.

All my gear goes into dry sacks. Which get laid out onto a bathtub made from plastic sheeting and duct tape under me. if the tub gets nasty,it gets tossed after the trip and I make a new one in 5 minutes.
