With the two Hammocks on the way I'm staring to think about suspension. I've read posts about carrying a long and a short set of tree straps or choosing one over the other depending on what size trees one 'thinks' they will encounter.

What's wrong with just buying a long set?

Since I have two sets to buy, if I buy a long and a shorter set and split up the set with a long and a short for each hammock that would cover more hanging options

Lastly, how do ratchet straps striped down work? I hate to give people money for something I already have and hate to use for their intended purpose.

I would highly recommend this suspension kit . It is a great way to get started.

Looks great but was planning on Dutch Clips and Buckles. I ordered my Blackbird w/woopie slings, but not sure how my stepdaughter's will come. If hers doesn't come with woopie slings I thought we might make some, she likes working with paracord so the sling would be something new.

Mostly it is the tree slings I have a question about.

I'm still using the basic nylon straps that came with my Blackbird. It works just fine for me.

Agree with this setup, I use the Marlin Spike Hitch, Amsteel Whoopie Slings, and one inch tree straps, works great.

Bear in mind I'm pretty much a rook when it comes to hanging... I use the original straps that came with my CLark along with marlin spikes. I did replace the suspension rope with whoopie slings. This setup works great for me...

Same here. It seems that people tend to over think things, then sell others on it. I still use the straps that came with my Hennessy.

I have whoopie slings coming on mine. I intend to put WS on my SD hammock.

My question is about tree straps.

We use tree straps, two rapelling rings and a carabiner on each end. Can put up the hammock in seconds and adjust as needed.

+1 Easy peasy.

I would just get longer straps. If you can't find trees cloe enough, then you'll have the extra length to play with.

I have had great success with this. I like to keep things simple. ENO singlenest and loadstraps are what keep me off the ground. Remove the hook and create a loop at the end. If you're even a little bit saavy you should be able to sew to loop with little difficulty. Gives me about 10ft on either end of the hammock which is plenty, have approx 300lb load capacity a piece, and no stretch.

Search "ENO Double Nest Overview and Hanging Technique" posted by David's Passage. He demonstrates this process well.

I too am still using the webbing straps that came with my BB XLC. Simple to use and solid.

Yup. Polyester straps. It is helpful to sew loops on each end. Bar Tack and Box Stitch for extra security.
