I do a fair bit of hanging in all but the coldest weather here in Ontario (I also do a ton of winter camping but not yet in a hammock). My sleep system consists of an ENO Doublenest and Big Anges bags along with my Exped Downmat in its sleeve.

I've done a bunch of reading and everyone raves about under quilts, so I've been seriously considering getting one.

I think the one I like is this one from Underground Quilts UGQ Zeppelin

I'm stumped on which one to get though. The 20 degree version would probably be more versatile but I sleep really cold so I am also considering the 0 degree.

I've also been reading about an underquilt protector like this one:
UQP 2QZQ

Does anyone have any experience with any of these products? My other thought is to grab the 20 degree under quilt along with the underquilt protector to get it a bit warmer...

Sorry for rambling, just looking for some opinions and input.

Thanks!

Sounds like you're in a similar situation to me. I figured that since I already have ground kit, the first underquilt should be for when it's too cold for pads to work sufficiently anymore or they need supplementing. By that logic, I say get the 0 degree one, probably the full-length version. Mine's from Hammock Gear, so I don't have experience with that particular quilt, but it looks fine. No experience with the UQP, but Shug did a video on it. I actually got my underquilt with the Epsilon mulicam outer shell, which is already a wind- and water-resistant fabric, so it doesn't really need an UQP. One thing that would be really slick is if you got the UQP and added some little velcro straps, baffles, or something else to hold things in place - I'm thinking you could then stuff extra clothes into it to augment your quilt.

Thanks for the input...I'm leaning towards the 0 degree myself. I was looking at the HG Incubator as well, I've read great things about it too.

I love my Zeppelin 20deg UQ, full length. I got mine with the draft collar for a better seal. You can get it overstuffed and make it 5-10 deg warmer. Sorry, no experience with the UQ protector. Great people to work with. Good luck and enjoy!

Do they come standard with the draft collar or are those additional? Checking out the site it appears as though they come with them. A draft collar makes so much sense...looks like a well designed product!

My 0 degree Zepplin came in mail last week. I haven't been able to try it out yet but it looks great. Draft collars come with it.

i made my own underquilt, but i did purchase the 2qzq cover. it not only adds warmth but great coverage and packs down small.

Being as you live pretty far north, I suggest the heavier model.
I have a HG Incubator 20* with 2 oz overstuff.
I prefer the full length UQ as it covers my feet, which are usually the coldest part of me.

Last year when I bought mine, draft collars were an add on. They look to be standard now. Excellent quality.
If it gets too warm, just move them off to the side. For me, the full length was a must. Great coverage and it packs small.

Yes, HG now makes draft collars standard.

I have a UGQ 20 degree Zep and a hammock gear 20 degree with some overstuff. I prefer the Zep, mostly because I had Paul make it a little wider than normal. It fluffs up and covers every bit of my back and sides. The HG is a very nice piece of gear but took me a long time to get it set just right and it still sometimes slips off a shoulder. I suppose I could get some clips or other fastener to keep it in place if I wanted but the Zep is just so easy to use it's my go to.

As for your question, get the 0 degree. You can always loosen the suspension on really warm nights. Think of it as a mattress. When you're warm in bed you push a foot out from under the covers or throw the covers back. Same thing in a hammock.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think I'm officially sold :)

Sorry the reply is a bit late but I'm sold on the UGQ 0* Zeppelin. Plenty warm for most camping I do. I added the 2QZQ UQP for a little extra protection. It fit the WB XLC well since I had it extended six inches and added two oz overfill.. Great piece of gear.
