Glad the portages between Optic and Glen were to your liking! We cleared those as honorary portage clearers for Red Lake Outfitters. We stayed at that same campsite on Glen in May and also enjoyed it (also helped to clear it!). It was fun to see someone else enjoying it. We also found the fishing to be lucrative. Lots of fun memories! We are headed back up there in a couple weeks for a winter camping adventure in WCPP. We'll definitely report back if the fishing is just as good in the winter!!!
There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.

Nice report. That window you were in did produce some excellent fishing. I was up on the Bloodvein (NW corner) and ended my trip at just about the time you are starting. Excellent walleye and pike fishing. (I even managed a half-dozen or so smallies in that upper section.) You didn't mention trying for lakers. There should have been some at least on Glenn along that route.
I especially enjoyed your description of the lakes you traveled and the campsites you visited/camped on. The route from Hansen to Optic was my exit leg on a solo trip in 2010 and it definitely brought back fond memories of that trip. There ARE some fairly nice waterfalls on some of that route. (Did you spot the picto on Hjlarmar Lake as you passed thru?)
Thanks for sharing.

Ha ha... Greg didn't tell me about the gps misfortune when I borrowed him mine. :) It's here whenever you need it Greg. I've got a hatchet we found on one side of the 625 meter portage. One of those portages before Telescope the guys I was with decided to run it with a hole in their canoe as a result. We stayed at the island campsite on Telescope and the point campsite on Optic the year before and two years in a row the campsite you were at on Glenn I think. Never skunked on Glenn for Walleye. But never a nice pike like yours. Sounds like your another paddler hooked on WCPP. You'll be back!

Ben,
Some things are best left unsaid. With that, I have a new GPS which I believe is the same model as yours. Anyway I'll get in touch with you this winter, looking for some info to download onto my computer. Hope your feeling well. I'm looking at an early season trip to WC, interested? Let's talk.

Yes, nice to read this on a cold wintery day here. Your first day adventure brought back memories of long portages and way too heavy packs. But soon you get your legs under you.
Seems like the fishing is wild and no smallies to boot. Very nice pike! I have to make it up there sometime. Thanks for the post.

I got the chair at REI. Packs up to almost nothing and maybe weighs about 1# Comfortable and easy to pack away. This was first trip using it and I was very pleased. Spent several hours reading and relaxing.

I sat down and read through the messages this morning and I must say that I was blown away! I noticed on the trip report page that this report was the December 2013 Winner!! So cool that other adventures took notice and can relate to where Greg and I went in WCPP. For new people looking to plan a trip, I hope this gives you the motivation that you need to go out and do it! You really have that accomplished mentality when finishing up any trip and that definitely follows you throughout the year!
