So I'm thinking about this hammock thing.

Like is there a dangerous way to hang a hammock? If there is, I'm bound to do it unless I know what to avoid.

If you're using slap straps just make sure to lock the knot with a half hitch right behind it.

I tend to avoid hanging over any protruding rocks that might hurt me if I ever fell on them. Flat ground is what you want.

Pay attention to what is above you and below you. Tie good knots! Watch Shug's videos.

All good. I'll reinforce looking up to avoid "widow-makers", and watching Shug Emery's videos, but also, practice more than once before you're neck deep in the woods. Hammocks require fiddling at first, but are totally worth it.

Very much the same as pitching a tent, really.

Don't hang higher than you're willing to fall.

If using marlin spike hitch - remember "on the knot, not the toggle"

ALWAYS test before putting all your weight in the hammock

Don't brag too much about the great, comfortable sleep you had in your hammock to the ground dwellers while on a trip - you might end up on the ground! ;^)

Happy Hanging!
