I've been hanging for a few years now and am thinking about getting an underquilt to do some winter camping. Has anyone used this one? Also, with an underquilt can you use a lighter sleeping bag? As of now I use a Big Agnes air pad and a 30 degree bag and sleep very comfortably down into the 30's. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

I recently got a 20 degree underquilt from Hammock gear.
I have no idea how anyone could ever hang without one.
When you compress a sleeping bag, the bottom portion looses all of its insulative qualities. You really only need to lay something on top of you when using an underquilt.
A top quilt will be my next purchase.

Several of the cottage industry folks have had Black Friday sales the last couple of years. I bought my under quilt one year and my top quilt last year, both from Hammockgear. Took awhile to get them because they really get the orders in but they came with a great savings.

Pulled the trigger and ordered the DD under blanket. Shipped from the UK on Monday and had it by 10:30 this morning. Packs about the size of a rugby ball and looks to be really well built. At $138.00 a piece with free shipping you can't beat it. Plus they threw in a free T-shirt. I only got too look at it for a few minutes and it will be after Christmas ( have to hide the girlfriends from her) before I get to use it. I will put a better review after the holidays are over. Even with this in my pack and a lot lighter bag I will still be about the same or less weight than my previous set up.

I also use the HG 20* Incubator. I got 2 oz of overstuff in mine. I use a Big Agnes Fishhawk 30* bag on top. Usually I just lay it on like a quilt. But, if it gets really cold I can zip into it and use the hood. If it gets even colder, I can slip a ccf pad that I always carry into the pad sleeve of the BA bag. (The ccf pad is a cut down wally world that I most often use as a sit pad .) Just like clothing, the layering method gets you greater flexibility to handle more weather conditions.

Yes, weight may be the same, but I predict you will be even MORE comfortable than before.
