WHEN: September 27-29
WHERE: Lake Rebecca Regional Park Reserve....Sarah Creek Group Camp Site
IF YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU ARE INVITED!
*It is a 2 day camp out at a private site, at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford, Minnesota. You will not be charged for joining us at the group camp, but we will gladly accept what you can donate to help cover the cost of the site.
*You may arrive anytime on September 27th. Plan to camp Friday and Saturday with departure on Sunday. You don’t have to camp. In the past many people have come for a day or even a few hours. Whatever time fits your schedule you are welcome!
DIRECTIONS:
Use this link for directions. Rebecca Park is the one along the Crow River furthest to the left on the map. (Hold your cursor over the green for directions.)
This is the park map with the Sarah Creek Group Camp marked in yellow.
*Potluck will be on Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm. – please bring a dish to share! The variety of food is unbelievable! Many people cook on site. There are no grills. There are two fire rings with grates. Bring what you need to prepare your food.
WHAT'S AT CAMP:
*NO electricity. (Bring a lantern if you have one.)
*A water pump is located on site. There is a latrine building without running water.
*There are some out buildings to use for cooking and shelter from wind, rain or snow should the weather be less favorable. After all it is MN!
*Picnic tables, yes. BYO chairs.
*LOTS OF BWCA.COM FRIENDS TO SHARE STORIES WITH!!!
PADDLING:
*Lake Rebecca is very canoe friendly. No motorized boats, electric only. Feel free to bring your canoes or kayaks and your fishing gear.
HOUSEKEEPING REMINDERS-
*Please Leave no Trace!
*You are responsible for yourself, your family and your guests when it comes to keeping a clean camp. This includes the latrine building and things left (tossed) in the woods. (Sounds like a no-brainer but. . . .)
*Recycling bins are available for all recyclables.
*Garbage cans are on site so you don't need to pack-it-out.
ANOTHER NOTE-
If you are someone who wants to go to bed early or sleep in late, it is recommended you camp away from the fire pits. Socializing tends to go on around the fire pits both late into the night and early in the morning.
RSVP:
We would like an idea on the number of people planning to attending.
How many? Camping or not? What will you bring for potluck?
Feel free to ask any questions if something was missed!

quote jb in the wild: "Hay Tony, do I call you BOSS? I work at Baker."
Nah, but you can call me "commissioner". I'm on the Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Commission, which serves as the citizen advisory body to the Metro Council on parks and trails issues. We deal with the very "high-level" planning and policy things, like plan where in the metro lacks a nearby park or trail and should therefore have one proposed nearby, review and approve all master plans for acquisition and development, and draft the policies for what is eligible for various types of funding and review and approve specific grant requests for compliance with those policies. All "operational" matters like overseeing individual park staff, managing the park units, and conducting programming are the responsibility of the "park implementing agencies", in this case Three Rivers Park District (which also has its own board of commissioners), making them and Superintendent Cris Gears your ultimate boss, along with either Margaret Dahlof or Thomas McDowell depending on your position. :)
08/26/2013 05:57PM
quote inspector13: "Can you get some more money funneled over to Big Marine? : )"
We approved an acquisition grant for a parcel in that park in June of last year , and another one last August. Non-acquisition costs (development, maintenance, and operations) are allotted to each park implementing agency by means of formulae that can be found in a little light reading called the 2030 Regional Parks Policy Plan (Chapter 4) and the statutes referenced therein, and then Washington County decides what portion goes to that particular park reserve, so for further action beyond that call up your county commissioner!

You can pencil me in for Saturday and Sunday. Great scheduling because the Packers are on an early bye Sunday, September 29th! :-)
Unfortunately I'll need to set the DVR for the Wisconsin-Ohio State game Saturday night. :-(

Barring some serious negativity in the job situation -- I will be attending. Wavering on Friday-- but certainly most of Sat and for the pot luck. Likely will bring my smoked chicken wings and blu cheese sauce.

Tried to come last year but couldn't swing it. I'd like to come this year so I will check calendar. I have a couple of questions for those who regularly attend. If I were to come for one night, which night would give me maximum opportunity to meet other members of the board? Is there a potluck one night and if so, which one?
Would I be welcome with my puppy? She's nearly 16 weeks old now and fairly quiet at home. However, she is still a puppy and hasn't yet been to "Youth Shaping" class (ie, puppy school) so she requires vocal and other corrections at times. Next weekend will be her inaugural camping trip with friends on the Namekagon River so I'll have a better sense then of how she might behave. I won't consider coming with her (so me either) if she doesn't do passably well then. I would, of course, keep her on leash and under control as much as possible for her and me so she doesn't bother others. That leads to another question. Is the camping space large enough that my tent could be a bit away from everyone else's? I don't mean real far (>50 ft.) but perhaps 20 feet so we aren't right next to another camper. She needs a bit of room on-leach/rope to move around a little. She also likes to check things out and can quickly find things to do or chew if they are nearby. Also, is there a good and easy walking area for her?

I'm very sorry I won't be able to make it again this year. I have a first birthday party to go to in Spooner that Sunday. I checked distances from Duluth to Rebecca L. and then to Spooner then home and it's just more driving and in-car time than either Addie or I want to do.
Have a great time everyone.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll be going. Thats a pretty busy 5-6 days for me. I have a developers conference that I need to drive up to Bloomington for on Wed night the 25th, and then drive back the 26th evening. Turn around the next afternoon to drive up to the meet then drive back on the 29th, then Monday the 30th classes start for me at Oregon State online, but I think I can squeeze it in. :)

I'm pretty bummed out... Because I had to go East before going West hauling boats I'm behind schedule and won't be back in time for Wing Night. I hope this winter I'll recoup quick enough from my upcoming surgery to be able to enjoy a mini wing night somewhere. The good news is I'll be spending a couple days with kids and grandkids out in Washington. So have fun and don't eat to many mooseplums. :)

Will try and post a wing night weather forecast within 48-60 hours and see how I do a week out. Right now looks above normal temps but may be a bit unsettled. Piece of energy in the atmosphere at 18,000Ft (the weather "highway") that should be affecting the Upper Midwest over next wk-end is just off the Japan coast now and complicating matters will be the formation of a likely Typhoon in the central Pacific-- when and if that happens is huge.
keep ya posted-- excited to attend.

Looks like rain should impact wingnight --- right now looks like overnight Fri into early Sat. Doesn't appear to be a gullywasher. Just a minor inconvenience. Hopefully the cold front will (should) be through and clearing will be in progress for the potluck Sat Pm. Temps should be very close to 80F on Fri cooling to the 60's on Sat.

Pretty excited to meet everyone! I ordered one of moosetracks used thermarest pads thinking I could use it for this trip and then hand me down to my wife since shes better on hard / cold floors (think japanese tatami / futons ) but it hasn't arrived yet. I hope it gets here in time!
Woot! .. If not .. I'm all set anyway and will adapt. Here's the deal .. stranger showing up to the meet and I don't know a soul. Kanoes / Jan is the only one I've seen that has posted a picture I can recognize so Jan , the first dork you don't recognize coming up to you to introduce himself, that's probably me. :)
If anyone else see's me walking around confused .. please introduce yourselves. Please? :)
Edit: Should probably mention that I'm aiming for a Saturday 11am arrival now instead of Friday night. I'll spend the night Saturday then head home in the morning.

Well.. count us out now. Sadly... family gets in the way again this round. Our niece is throwing a surprise birthday party for her hubby on Saturday... and when we floated the idea of NOT attending it wasn't received well by the rest of the family.
Have a great time everyone... and hopefully we'll make it in the Spring.

For anyone interested in fishing. Lake Rebecca is a world class trophy muskie lake. Don't dangle your toes or any other body parts in the water. Also great largemouth bass lake. Have fun!
Will be up in SNF sorry to miss chance to meet you folks.

Does anyone drink beer at these things? I picked up a 12 pack of Spotted Cows yesterday and decided to take a week off of work after the TC Marathon to paint my house instead of doing it this weekend. So I'm in if there will be beer. How about a game of touch football in the rain on Friday night?

There better be alcohol at this event or I'm packing up and heading home! I didn't sign on for a church retreat. :) Ok I think I may have just crossed the line of internet anonymity.
I'll be byob for the record. Beer is ok in a world ending type scenario but since the worlds not ending I'll be packing my Seagrams 7.

Unfortunately, due to several business obligations, I won't be able to attend the Wing Night event in Rockford, Minnesota this weekend. :-(
Hopefully I'll see many of you at Izzy's Elk's Club Bowling-Wing Night in Milwaukee on January 18th, 2014!
Until then, take care and I hope all of you have a great time this weekend.
