I've been thinking about trying the hammock way of camping and have been considering different options. I'm considering the hennessey expedition with the underneath entry/exit. I know that I want to use a sleeping pad. Im wondering if this is possible with this style of hammock or if it is too cumbersome getting in and out with the pad in the way. Should I look for a different style of hammock to use with a pad?

Just my opinion, but I'd say yes. I think you will be a lot happier with a side zipper model.

Why were you wanting bottom entry? Side entry with double layer will probably b better with pad.
Hennessy now has side entry in all there models.
Be sure to check out hammockforums.net if you haven't already.

Blue Skies and happy hanging!

Everyone has thier own opinion!
I have a Hennessy with the bottem entry and I use a Thermorest short pad in it and it works great! I tried the side entry and did not like it very well. Bottom entry for me.
Even when I put the under quilt on it I still had no issue with the bottem entry.

...also I have the Ultralight Explorer instead of the Expedition, seams roomier and has the Silnylon rain fly vs the poly coated one.

I have used a pad in a bottom entry hammock and found that it takes a long time to get on top of the pad and in the sleeping bag. By the middle of the night the pad is always on top of me.
I have used a pad in a double bottom hammock and found it works well.
If you are near Chicago burbs I could set up one of each and let you try them some afternoon.

Thank you MagicPaddler, for the offer. If I were closer I'd take you up on it.

And to campcrafter, I like the Hennessey hammock and I found what I think is an ok deal on this model, which happens to be bottom entry, only used twice so not a big investment if I don't like hammocking. But even though I'm not experienced at this I'm pretty sure I want to use a pad. But I don't want to waste my money, even if it is an ok deal.

So I wanted to get opinions from more experienced people. Thanks. I appreciate your input. Still not sure what to do. I guess I can sell it if it doesn't work out. And maybe I won't want to use a pad after all.

The Hennessey hammock is a very comfortable hammock for warm summer nights. Do not make the mistake of thinking a good sleeping bag will keep my under side warm in cooler weather. Mashed insulation equals very little insulation. A poncho under the hammock that blocks air flow and creates dead air space will provide as much insulation as a laid on sleeping bag.
