      Clark NX-250?

Hi,

I'm just getting more serious about sleeping in a hammock vs. tent.

Does anyone have feedback on the Clark NX-250 hammock? I'm thinking about purchasing one, but they're obviously pretty spendy. If you have one, I'm most interested in knowing how well you like it for 1) comfort, 2) durability as a camping hammock for the wilderness, and 3) any experience with Clark customer service.

Do you have the Clark Z liner or do you use a 3rd party underquilt? Any other specific likes or dislikes?

Thanks for your help!

I have a Clark which I like just fine. But last year on a whim I bought a warbonnet and haven't used my Clark since. The Clark has a large capacity and I found it to be a warm hammock especially with the pockets underneath but to be truthful for the price I wouldn't buy another one I think I spent about 400 on it. I spent 175 on my blackbird. And I find the warbonnet to be a flatter lie and more comfortable.

I tried a friend's Clark, but then purchased the Warbonnet. I do not regret the decision.

Can't compare to the WBBB, but I have the NX-250 & love it. I have slept in it deerhunting down to 20 deg & stayed toasty with my Arrowhead under quilt... I researched the Z-liner & the reviews kind of sucked, so went with a full UQ & it fits great.

I would like to try a Blackbird some time though.

I have the NX250 and sleep in it every night inside. Have had for a couple of months now but have not actually camped in it. No time with a new job. My 1st hammock trip will be in a couple of weeks. Have not even tried the tarp yet but will this weekend. Never tried any other hammocks. I bought the Z-liner but then turned around and got the JRB under quilt for fear that it was not going to be warm enough.

If you are going to spend the money for a nice setup like a Clark or a Warbonnet, purchase an UQ too and don't mess with the pad. The pads work, but you will get cold if the temps dip into the 30s. They also can slide around too, even in a BA bag.

+1 You will never regret buying a good U/Q. A full-length model is highly recommended unless weight is a driving factor.

I have 2 Clark hammocks, the NX-150 and the new Flex.

The NX-250 you inquire about is slightly larger than my NX-150 but everything else is the same. These are great hammocks. I'm 6'1" and 250 lbs and have outgrown the NX-150.

While looking for a replacement, I decided on the Flex model, rather than the NX-250 because it has a 3rd anchor point which gives you more room and a flatter lie. It can even accomodate a second person if needed.

If price is your main concern, go with the ENO or WBB. If you don't mind spending a little extra for quality, IMO the Clarks are the cadillac of hammocks.

Just ordered a New NX 250 this morning, in the coyote brown color!!! I've been researching hammocks for the last 6 months and finally pulled the trigger on what I believe is the Cadillac of hammocks...I just came across this thread and wanted to say thanks for the vote of confidence on this LuvMyBell!

I have a Clark NX-250 and I love it. The only problem I've run into is trying to convince others in my group to give it a shot. I spent a lot of time researching before pulling the trigger on that model. I have a cheap hammock and an ENO doublenest. I used the ENO for my first attempt hanging in the BWCA with my BA mummy bag and Thermarest neo-air trekker. It was a September trip, I was cold.

I spent some time researching and some money on new gear, I have no regrets.
I still need an under quilt, I was looking at the Clark one, which is different than the pads on the newer model NX-250s. I may take a look at the UQs from enLIGHTened equipment, where I bought a Revelation Pro from (which is an awesome quilt for hanging).

We have been going to BWCA for 6 years. First year only 1 hammock. This last year we had 17 guys divided into 3 groups and virtually all had hammocks.

I use Python Straps and can set my Hennessy up, tarp included in under 45 seconds. Can't do that with a tent.

And no crawling out on my knees for those 2-3 nightime trips.

Follow up to my original post. I've now owned my Clark NX-250 for almost 2 years and like it even more with each use. I have no complaints at all and don't see myself going back to a tent. Ever. I love the roominess, zip-on/off bug net and cover, and I've used the insulating pads down to 20 degrees with no cold spots or discomfort. Plus, it still looks and functions like brand new - great hammock!
