My wife and I have a tradition of going to Crocodile every late September. She loves the Walleye fishing there. We always have entered through East Bearskin. Do I dare try to enter at #66 or will I be sorry. I don't mind a good bushwack, but she is not fond of them!!! Has anybody been that way in the last year ?

wallee... what other way is there to get in via portage? are you thinking the vegetable lakes? I've only gone in entering at the campground landing on east bearskin and then taking the portage to crocodile.

entry point 66 is a route that enters at the crocodile river east of the lake. It is seldom used and from reports can be tough to find. Thought it might be worth the effort.

I see what you mean, enter off the greenwood road and travel the vegetable lakes. not sure how traveled that is anymore, most folks enter via east bearskin lake. if you do it please report on it! ;)

I don't think you have to go through the vegetable lake area. I think the entry is north of the veggie chain.

south bean, bean, parsnip... I was looking at google earth to try to find anything resembling a portage. i'm sure it's there. probably someone in grand marais would know.

I wandered through that route probably 10 years ago...it was fine.

Hey Wallee. My buddy and I entered Croc from E. Bearskin a few years ago and did a 1/2 day trip exploring the area around the other entrance. We never made it all the way to the parking area but we got several lakes toward it from Croc. Trails are fine. A bit tight but definitely not a bushwhack. Tons of moose tracks and sign and I think the trails have been kept open primarily by moose. We didn't encounter anything super difficult. We were there in June and the far east end of Crocodile was already pretty shallow and weedy. Not sure how it would be in late September if the season has been dry.

I have used EP 66 several times on last min trips mostly because other EPs were not available. I would say go for it, it is not a bushwhack but I do recall the portages being steep and path not to well used, but they were not difficult to find. I have not been through there in 3 years though and we usually went early in the year (may, June) so the portages may have been less overgrown than in the fall.
