How much gear do you take on a daytrip?

Extra clothes, stove, shelter, ect...?

I could see how you might want enough gear to make it thru the night if you had to, but how much is enough, or too much?

I get out a lot more in the winter than in the summer, because all you crazy tourists are up here then.

I try to always bring matches, a spare hat, and some spare gloves or mittens. Plus, enough clothing.

Nothing more than I can fit in my Parka Pockets.

I have an orange #2 cruiser(Duluth pack) that goes with me 12 mos a year, wherever I go. It has the basics for an over nite stay etc, winter extra clothes etc. Still try to keep it lite. It rides in the back of the truck for my emergency kit in winter. Somtimes a lite wt tarp also. I can grab and go as I know it is always packed. Only thing I need to do is get fresh water in the Nalgene.

I would bring a compass and possibly a thermos of coffee.
