Very entertaining trip report! Congratulations on your trip across that very long portgage. Beautiful pictures - especially the red sky sunset picture - it's fabulous.

My compliments on a great trip report. Your dry humor is absolutely a blast. I am so familiar with that particular area that I can identify with most every evil and frustrating thought you express! So funny!
Have seen the deer skull before, but the moose skull is new. There was a large wolf pack in that area 2 years ago, but did not hear or see them last year. Did you hear any this year? Perhaps the moose simply died during the winter.
Sheeze, I'm not sure how much of that was BS, exaggeration or exaggerated BS but still a great read!
So do you still have a garden center in Bloomington, IL? The wife and I will be in Bloomington Saturday morning, September 1 (staying Friday night at the Doubletree) on our way to the Minneapolis before heading up to the Gunflint Lodge for four nights.
I would make the wife stop in just so I can meet you!
Drought, yes we still have Garden center here. We are located on Fox Creek Road very easy to get to, feel free to stop by I would love to meet you. I was up the Gunflint trail a couple weeks ago and stopped at the lodge to show a buddy around.
Lee, I got the wife to read your trip report and she is on board for stopping in! We're trying to get to Minneapolis late afternoon so if we can swing it, we will stop by between 8:00 and 9:00 am on Saturday morning (I'm assuming those gardeners like to start early!).
Again, that was a great read. We both were happy not to be the ones on that portage!
That sounds great, We open at 8a.m. so if you want to stop by earlier feel free. We are located about 5 minutes from the hotel. Head south 4 stoplights, make a right and were down about 100 yards on the left. Big building with a bunch of greenhouses around it.
