I hear good things about the fishing in Conmee.
We spent alot of time on the Eastern end of the lake where at the start of the "conmee death march" where the stream/river comes in with little success. Either we were spooking fish, wrong time of day, or they just weren't there. We should have been picking up fish. There was a camp site there but we pushed on. On the first bay stretching south (East end of Conmee) there was a really cool island site we stopped at, but with 8 people, we couldn't fit.
On the portage between Conmee and Suzanette there is a geographic marker in the trail... kind of neat (first one I saw) but don't trip over it.
Suzanette was OK for smallies.

fishguts, e-mail me direct(oshegon1@aol.com) and i can probably tell you whatever you need to know about that area(plus burt, marge, suzanette) as i said earlier, i spend a lot of time there and have made improvements(firepits, benches) on several campsites in that area. just be sure to put "fishguts" in your message so i won't delete it before opening. if you are seriously planning a trip in there, it won't disapoint.

oshegon, not sure how many spring trips you have done, but if you are planning on entering on April 18 you may need to bring ice skates. The average ice out in the Ely area is April 23 for most lakes. As of today the ice is still tight to the shore and I would suspect ice out will be after the 18th especially on the bigger lakes. I also spoke with La Croix air services and on Lac LaCroix they were still driving on the ice roads on Friday. We are presently having some nice warm temps, so maybe ice out will be early...similar to last years date of April 17.
For those interested (not to advertise) I am an outfitter and guide.

Jimmy,
Check the date....05..we went last July We had a great time! We made it to William, and caught a lot of fish. However we never made it to Conmee or Suzanette..we took the Brent portage out of William . We got to William by taking the northern portages out of Darkey.....a nice route! Get back to me if you want to chat about this area.

Fishguts,
We have talked about taking a day trip over to William. Any recommendations on the fishing in there. We'd be there during the day, so I guess, unless it's a dark lake, etc., we'd be looking for Northern or Smallmouth...
Thanks.
