Well it’s been a week now since I got to use the hammock in a non-controlled area of the back yard and starting to do some thinking about making the next time out even better. So how many of you use a ridge line organizer? I got the shelf in my Blackbird, but used the ridge line to hang my glasses and my head lamp at bed time. Used the shelf to store my camera, map, and the such.

Other things that I need to think about is storage of clothes. The first night I put them at my feet and found by morning that is not where I wanted them located. What I ended up doing was hanging them from my tarp ridge line. This did work out pretty good.

Have seen that some make a gear hammock and maybe that is something that I should try.

I have some silnylon and may see if I can talk the wife into making a ridge line organizer (I know better than to use her sewing machine), or order some from 2QZ2.

How do you all do it?

Kevin ~ I thought hard a long time ago about 2Q2Z's organizer, which is very nice, but I found the gear shelf on my BB was more than adequate. I only hang my glasses on the BB ridge line. My extra clothes I keep in my pack, with a liner, which is hung on a tree. Last week I used the foot box, which my feet do not use, to store my rain gear if needed in the middle of the night. Stayed in there nicely. I also have the SF tarp so your set up is great!

Schwag Bag

REI Schwag Bags. You get two for 10 bucks. Add a small clip to the tag across from the existing clip and it will slide freely along the ridge line. Just leave it in the hammock. Enough from for glasses, headlamp, phone, MP3 player, etc.

I put one in each of my Blackbirds.

Just a simple, low cost fix to think about.

My gear hammock was great during a 11 day solo in May. I also have a WBBB, with a BMJ. I used a 4'x3' piece of nylon, gathered the ends and tied one end to the ring under the tarp that takes the wings, the other about 3' toward the middle of the tarp ridgeline (which, for me, is also the line from which I hang my hammock). It was great. Out of the way, kept everything bone dry, just packed up in the snake skins, so no need to mess with it.

I should also add that during my 11 days was when it rained 6 or 8 inches, so it was no small thing that my gear hammock and all the clothes in it stayed bone dry.
From the hammock ridgeline I hang my glasses, a thermometer, my headlamp and a watch (I leave the last three on the ridgeline and pack them with the hammock). In the shelf is my kindle, my SPOT and whatever items of clothing I may put on during the night.

For ridgeline organizer I use two of the Schwag bags for small things and a stuff sack for my clothes. I like the picture of the gear loft from shsylvester, could be in the future for me.

Thanks for the tip. I purchased two Schwag bags today ... but it cost me almost $70. ($10 for the bags, plus $60 for all the other "necessary" gear that I spotted while in the store).

Have to say that I like the looks of shsylvester’s gear hammock. I have sil here at the house and think that I may give it a try.

I did find this one over on hammock forums but don’t know if I need chair, pack cover, and gear hammock. I do like the way that he made a pouch to store it in as I like the way the one works on my ULA rain kilt.

I also like the looks of the schwag bag and I know I'll end up like OBX2Kayak ;-)

Yeah really.....who only spends $10 when shopping at REI. It's impossible to come away that cheap.

Just sew a little clip or loop on the tag across from the existing clip and you should be all set.

SH, your gear hammock looks like it might work to keep the bugnet away from my face, if there is enough stuff side to side. Another benefit. Did you larkshead the line on the ends? Looks like a good trial project for a full size hammock.
