Well trying to get everything dialed in for the end of the month trip and setup the Blackbird and Superfly late this morning as I plan on hanging in the backyard tonight. Want to get the 20 deg Incubator UC dialed in better than last time when I tried it out.
Had an approaching thunderstorm so I thought what the heck let’s see what it is like. I have not sealed the side pullouts as of yet and they did not have any water get through them. The problem that I ran across is I used a continuous ridgeline on the tarp. I placed the tarp over the ridgeline and did not think about putting a drip line on it. After about a half hour of heavy rain and pea size hail I started to get drips hitting me only in the face. Nothing too bad, just an annoyance. Lesson learned.
I did not have the side pullouts staked out and even with strong winds they did not hit the sides of the hammock. The picture is of the hail, but hard to see.

That superfly should give you enough coverage even in high wind without the side pullouts utilized.
The dripline issue? Well....live and learn I guess!
At least you know you can stay dry in some unfavorable conditions and that's a lesson right there.

I love the smell of silnylon in the morning. It smells like........victory!

Just a note that may help some... Water will not run past a spot that has silicone on it. If your ridge line is always stationary, then dabbing a little silicone sealant right where you'd normally put the drip line will do the same thing.
My HH ridge line is also the main hammock line, so my ridge line is stationary.

Good tip. Thanks.

I run my ridgeline over the tarp. Dont have this problem. I have some short cords tied to the ridgeline with larks heads. I roll the tarp sides up and tie them with the cords. Makes setup a breeze. Got the idea from a Shug video.
