Has anyone used the hammock setup with one tree? I saw a picture of it being done. The person used the tree for one end, and a bipod made out of two branch poles with a rope staked to the ground for the other. This would be very handy for those spots where you can only find one good tree. The only problem I could see would be maybe the tarp would not be centered.

I've never heard of this. got any pics?

I think if I couldn't find a suitable spot to hang I would use my hammock like a bivy sack. I use a 1/4 inch ccs pad so that would be ok. The trick would be to get the netting off of me so the skeeters were out of reach and rig my tarp over me.

No pictures, just find two tree poles about 7-8 feet long and 2-3 inches thick. Tie off at top and angle apart at bottom. Then angle poles in at bottom and out at top. Then tie off the top to the ground with a rope and stake or tie to a root of a tree. As you lay in the hammock the poles wedge tighter.

I would do a ground set up if it came to that. Another advantage to being a pad user is having this option if you can't find a decent hang.

I just saw something with a picture the other day but now I can't remember location. Did look on YouTube and there are several videos doing basically the same thing.

Here is one of them. The Single Tree Hammock Hang

Single Pole Hammock

Just had to go back and look at my history.....Time to empty it out.

Thanks Kevin, That's what I saw but with two poles lashed together. Looks like it has possibility's.

That's a good video. I subscribed to his channel too. Lots of good looking stuff there. Also looks like I should carry my hatchet if I'm going somewhere like Wabakimi or WCCP. I don't think whittling a pole with a pocket knife would be good. Thanks for the post.

That's pretty neat. I once used two kayak paddles, but my hammock was essentially laying on the beach.

The problem I see with that would be you need a strong anchor. Topsoil in th bdub I'd probably not gonna do it. You'd need a boulder or tree close enough to help out.

I used the bipod setup with a corkscrew shaped dog tie-out. It's a little shaky but it works.
