do you hang separate lines for tarps, above, under hammock straps? single tarps line or double. i have done both, usually depends on setup area. i bought a pack of knotbones for easy tie up. they are really cool items.

I used a tarp ridge line on my last trip and did not like the way the trap looked like. It looked like an old sway back horse's back. Next year I will only use the tarp tie outs loops.

Unless severe weather is expected, I use a single ridge line (above the hammock ridge line) for my tarp. I like the extra space it gives me.

I'm with OBX on this one. Single line above the tarp. I use a CCS so if the wind really gets going I could use any of the tie outs to secure it.

I also use a ridge line above my (CCS) tarp. Nothing fancy, just some of Dan's 1/8in polyester cord. I rig the tarp in an A-frame and run the ridge line through loops down the center. I use a prusik on each end to adjust tension and allow me to position the tarp.

I have four 10' (about) lengths of cord tied to loops along the bottom edge on each side that I use to set up sort of like a hex tarp with doors. I'll tie another cord to a loop in the middle of each side to pull it out a bit (this one's not kept attached). If the weather is nice I will set up one side as an awning.

I have several foot long pieces of cord tied with larks-heads on the ridge line for reefing the tarp. This keeps it under control while I setup/take down.

I'm still experimenting with hanging a CRL. I want the V that Dehoja popularized on HF, but I would prefer to hang the CRL entirely independently and attach the tarp just to prusiks. In his method, the tarp tie outs and the ends of the CRL are attached to the same points (fixed on one end and the same prusik on the adjustable end). I want to hang the CRL and tension it, preserving Vs. Then I’ll hang the tarp to separate prusiks on the line. I’m curious how you folks would create the Vs, and what other methods you prefer.

I set up very much like Merganser. A CRL with prussic loops to tension and position the tarp. I can close off the ends, leave them open, tie them back to give a hex shape. That is with my HG cuben tarp.

With my GG 12x12 I have more options because it has more tie outs. I can do a really long diamond, asym A-frame, standard A-frame, etc. Like most of you, I prefer to keep things as open as I can and try to spread things out. So...I bring extra line to tie out to trees or whatever.

I use a ridgeline & attach the tarp with a prussic on each end so I can easily center the tarp over the hammock.

How do you keep the ridgeline from rubbing against the hammock suspension? I tried using knot bones yesterday to create a V on each side (to run the suspension through), but it was still a challenge.

Also, what do you use for prusik line? I bought some mason line from Harbor Freight that works but frays easily and is difficult to loosen. I also have some old braided dacron fishing line that works but is really thin. I just bought some hemp from a fabric store that I will try.

I just use Zing-It as my ridgeline. I cannot stop it from rubbing so I gave up.

I use Zing-it also for the prussics. I made my loops about 9 inches and wrap 3-5 times as needed.

I used 550 para cord for my tarp ridgeline above and through the loops. Then I used a pair of figure eight Nite-ize cord tighteners to snug it up. Worked great this way.
