Ok I’m about to pull the trigger on a Blackbird. My question is will my spare 10x10 CCS tarp work ok or should I go for something else? I bought this second tarp for using with a hammock or at least that is what I told myself when I made the purchase, along with Dan had them on sale when I bought it......

A 10 X 10 should work very well. Some folks use tiny tarps.

I use a 12 X 12 just because I like the extra shade during the summer (and the extra coverage in winter). It's a weighty extravagance.

Just do it ... you'll spend more money. :-)

You should be fine with a 10x10 CCS tarp. I take a ENO tarp fitted for my hammock and a CCS 12x10 tarp. Just depends on what tarp I want to hang with.

I use a 10x12, rigged A-frame style over my DIY hammocks. I make them a bit longer than the Blackbird (ridgline's 110-112in) vs the blackbirds 102.

I could not get away with a 10x10 for an A-frame, you'll probably be OK if you get the hammock right up under the tarp to get the ends covered.

If it turns out to be too short for A-frame, rig it diagonally. You'll get less body coverage that way (still OK in most weather) but it will cover the ends better.

obx, do you use a one piece tarp line for your cctarp or 2? i am trying to decide which direction to go with a tarp ridgeline. i will have plenty of ccs line along to try different setups. i put the original hh prusiks on the whoopies, wrapped them 4 times and they seem to bite nicely, so i have that option now as well with the orig hh tarp.

I use a single line made out of amsteel. It has a knot bone on one end and a figure 9 attached with a prussik toward the other. There are two prussiks with small s-biners inbetween. Clip the biners to be tarp and use the prussiks for tension. Very easy. I got it from here

I've used it for a 10x14 and 10x10 ccs.
