What are your favorite sites for hanging in the BWCA?

Do you know any sites that are not good for hanging? Please share.

I often used my military jungle net hammock for day naps and this year went with hammock as sleeping quarters. We stayed one night on Fire, a couple on Insula and then out through Thomas. The far eastern site on Fire was best of the three, Insula was good but would be good for tents and groups so was used more. The site by the portage at the north end of Thomas into Hatchet was okay, but not great.

This rig is a hammock bliss double with alps comfort pad and noah's tarp. I used a kelty mummy bag but legs like to spread so will be looking to upgrade with quilts.

I hope to see some setups at future wingnight.

Nice hanging with you all. Look forward to campsite ratings including tree options for hangers.

OB thanks for starting the new group. Here is a picture of my set up. Warbonnet Blackbird and a Warbonnet Superfly

This site on the north side of French lake would not be very good for hanging. This picture was a year and a half ago. I was staying on Gillis at the time and on a day trip, I'm glad I didn't have to stay at this site. It was part of the Ham lake fire.

Many of the sites that were affected the Ham Lake/Cavity Lake fires off the Gunflint are an absolute no go since there aren't any trees. Pretty much every site that I have ever visited with trees around I have been able to make work.

This one was on Saganaga.

OBX, I had a cuben tarp for about five minutes and could already see it peppered with punctures holes in my imagination. How is yours holding up?

Lympho: Alas, that cuben tarp in the picture is not mine. It's a picture from last month's 2nd Annual Minnesota Frozen Butt Hang. I was just using it as a "theme image."

Hanging on Contentment, Weeny PMA, west side, fall '08.

Hanging in WCPP on Paull Lake, Aug '10... great site!

Can't believe that I don't have more photo's, but dozens of trips in the west end where I've never had an issue with the hammock. Couldn't think of anything better to bring on PMA trips.

The best hammock hanging campsite I've ever been to is on iron the island site on the south part of the lake not too far from Peterson bay

Is that the Sony AcidTrip Shot camera?

This was after a cold night on Shell. Set up a bit to close to the lake and felt like that added to some condensation issues. Still better than a tent!

Can't see the hammocks here. Both are Hennesey Asym about 7 years old. I bought 2 originally cause I knew that I couldn't make my future partner sleep on the ground. We both have 3/4 underquilts by Stormcrow and the top quilts are by Go-Lite. The green tarp is a CCS 8x10 and the white one is by Granite Gear.

This picture is from Quetico. I've always liked hanging as close to the water as possible.

last year was my first hanging and we did a loop from lil Gab to Bald Eagle, to Gull, Pietro, Clearwater, Turtle, and then out. Camped on on Pietro, Clearwater, and Turtle. I wouldn't recommend hammocks on either Pietro or Turtle but the second site on Clearwater as you head east from the portage that goes to Turtle is phenomenal. Plenty of hanging options, a nice but smallish tent pad and good fire area. Sorry no good pics through there.

I was starting to get the taste for the BW already but now I am really craving my trip this year. Of course, I discovered hammocking upon my return from the BW last year so I have only been able to hang in the back yard and at one campground the night before a race. This year the hubby and I will be hanging our hammocks and I hope to enjoy the most comfortable nights sleep. I have a Warbonnet Blackbird with a Spinn UL Big Mamajamba for a tarp and a jarbridge river under quilt. The hubby has a Switchback and a DIY tarp. Our BW trip will likely be in June so I plan to perfect my setup in the yard before we go.

This is last Sept. in Quetico. The pad is a 1/4 inch closed cell foam and was 40X60" new. That was a little wide so I trimmed the sides where my legs would be.

It works real nice and kept me warm for two nights that got down to freezing. I fit it in the Warbonnet Blackbird sleeve under me. I use a Superfly tarp with doors.

Fourtown has a number of sites with ample hammock options. This one is right next to the portage into fourtown from the east.

Haven't hung in BW, but here is my site last summer on the west side of Smoothrock in Wabakimi. Fresh blueberries from the hammock sure gets the day off to a great start!
