I have had a pair of Steger Mukluks for a couple of years now (bought in winter 2001) and I love them. Warmest and most comfortable winter footwear I have ever owned. They almost get too hot when I use them in above zero temps for snowshoeing and hiking.

My Mukluks are made of Moosehide with the knee high fabric gaiters. Yes they are expensive, but the warmth and comfort compared to pack boots is unbelievable. The traction of the sole is not as good as a fully lugged sole of most boots, but I find it adequate. I also am not sure how long the sole will last on more abrasive surfaces such as granite and concrete. The other problem some may have is with ankle support. Laced up properly they will provide some but it is not as much as a stiff pack boot would.

They are like wearing warm slippers outside.

I'm so excited I ordered the traditional style and they will be here on Thursday. which is kind of crazy since Ely's only a 45 min drive, but I'm very happy and I'm looking forward to my new investment. I'll be paying my ma back for a long time for these! (and I have two jobs!)

Enjoy them. Post your thoughts after you have worn them a couple of times. Would be interested in another users opinion.

finally got my mukluks I'm wearing them right now! They're real nice except everytime I lace them they shed all over the black canvas stretching to my knee! I'm gonna have to by one of those sticky lint brushes!
Good so far while waiting for the bus with a windchill of -15!

p.s. good things happen i ended up getting a 300 buck bonus from my family outfitters for Christmas (part commission from so many kayaks and canoes sold) so I already paid my mukluks off before I go them

Casey, The moosehide does shed for a little while, but that subsides with use. I think you will find that you will not have to worry about the shedding for too long. I have the ivory gaiter tops which probably do not show the shedding as much. Glad you got them in time for the cold weather returning.

ya on sunday the temp. high will be 5 so I'm glad I got them this week! I just went out and bought one of those sticky lint rollers so I just roll them when I retie them. I'm certainly making a conversations at school too haha. I think I might've started a new fashion craze! Oh well my feet are warm and comfortable I don't even need to wear socks in my mukluks!
