I was just curious how far you could expect to get in one day of travel from a Brewer Rapid drop off. I know fishguts went in this way, so if you're reading please pipe in. We travel pretty fast the first day. Last year we went from a Prairie Portage drop off to the north end of Sarah, probably 20-22 miles with lots of portages. We'll probably like to get to Wickseed or Darky the first day.

Assuming you're getting a tow, you will probably get to your EP no sooner than 8 AM. I'd think you could make Darkey for sure based on how fast you guys go on your first day. Let me know, we plan on going there next year.

Hey! You can get to Darkey! But if you go the way we did.... from McAree to Pond and then up the "Death March Portage" to Little Gratton.... this is 220 Rds. and is mostly UPPPP! also a bit brushy, with a Moose Swamp at the beginning and a rock wall at the end. So once you get over that!!! It's a snap into Darkey...2 easy portages...that is if the White Hourses aren't running across Wickstead. We stayed on Little Gratton and enjoyed Large Mouth Bass fishing....they aren't big but lots of fun!

If you usually do 20-22 miles you should reach Darky no problem. My pregnant wife and I made Wicksteed in a day doing the same entry last year. The Gratton Death March portage is a steep climb at the beginning and even steeper descent at the end--be care full if it is slippery.

You may be able to make Darky, but when we were on Wicksteed we saw only one other group and nice smallie/norton fishing if you want to stop early---was just too tempting to keep going.

If you do 20-22 miles day. I couldn't help but notice that that's looks like about the norm for longest trip per day.

Good luck!! and be sure to take the time to stop and smell the roses.

Hey Starwatcher, just to clarify we don't do that many miles per day. We probably average 10 miles/day. We just normally bust our humps the first day to get as far in as we can. Then after an easier day 2, sometimes we'll come to a complete stop and do nothing but rose smelling for two or three from the same campsite.

I made Darky by this route with no problem.
