My fixed blade remington knife is made out of 440c stainless steel. The blade is not serrated Currently, I have a cheap sharpener that just doesn't do a great job and I have little experience or knowledge regarding knife sharpening. What is the right tool for the job?
Tough to get 440 to hold an edge. I use a ceramic V sharpener on my swiss army knives. Holds an edge for about 5 minutes of cutting and needs touched up. The only time I ever got a 440 stainless knife hair popping sharp was with a cardboard grinder wheel and rouge on a bench grinder. Tough stuff to keep sharp.
