We're putting in at Nym Lake for a 7 day trip with lots of fishing. Any suggested circle routes with one or two days of base camp?
Thanks

Nym thru Batchewaung to east on Pickerel, Bisk, Beg, Bud, Fern, Olifaunt then either - Halliday, Elizabeth, Jesse, Maria and back to Nym, or - Olifaunt, Sturgeon, Sturgeon Narrows, west to Lonely Lake then Walter, Elizabeth, Jesse, Maria and out.
Halliday wonderful lake, bad portages in and out. Lonely Lake beautiful (and lonely) and not as difficult to get to from this direction. (portage into Lonely from Yeh is one of my top 3 worse).
Portage into Halliday from Sturgeon is wet (muddy) at south end and has big elevation changes. But, Halliday is very isolated. I only know of one campsite on the lake.
I would two night in Halliday or Lonely.

Did not fish much in Halliday. The only campsite that I am aware of is on the obvious point, straight ahead of the portage coming in from the south. It is a great campsite with options for protection. I repeat from earlier message...the portage in from Sturgeon is on my top five worse list. Depending on the water level, it can be ugly muddy at the start and their is a lot of elevation in the middle. My opinion is that it is worth it. We were told that the lake is a trout lake but did not fish for them.
Would love to hear a report on your trip. MEddy@LJBINC.com

If fishing is your goal I have a couple of suggestions related to the Maria, Jesse, Elizabeth, Walter route(s)

With 6 people we would push hard to make Elizabeth in 1 long day. Portages between Maria and Jesse and then Jesse and Elizabeth are LONG.

Maria is an easy day trip and offers good fishing for Pike, Bass, and Walleye. We camped on Jesse 1 year and no bass. Fishing overall wasn't great.

I recall Elizabeth being good and it is an easy day trip to Walter from there.

I suggest getting to Maria in a day. Another day to Elizabeth. Base camp there and make day trips to Walter and others. Then reverse the route to get out.
