I'm looking for 4 days trip...this will be my third time there. I'm looking for a trip that consist of short portages and small lakes. The past couple of times are from large lakes that takes forever to get to that first portage. So if theres any suggestion on canoe routes that have small lakes, good fishing, short or easy portages then let me know...Thanks

I think entry point # 14 is good. (little indian souix). YOu will have to backtrack through the river, but it is a nice river. YOU can spend time at shell lake, heritage lake. YOu could spend a good 4 days in there.

#14 is a good area, and you can exit at #16 for a four day trip, no back tracking. The exit points are about 7 miles apart and more than likely you can find someone to give you a ride.
Even if not, it isn't that far to walk/run.

one more thing...you think the flies are out around that time (first week of june)...they're some killer flies...last time i was up there i couldn't hardly breath...if they are out, what will stop them from swarming you...hahahaha

Very slow moving water in the river and it flows north.
Last year was a bad year for the "friendly flies" but this year we really shouldn't have many at all, more like a 'regular' year.
Go over to Shell Lake (about 3.5 hours in) and try to fish for northern pike. Some walleye in there too.
Then go up to Heritage for walleye.
Great campsites on Shell and even a nice one on the point in Upper Pauness.
