Nice report. I did the Low Lake area once for my son's first "BWCA" trip. He busted me, and I had to admit we were not in the BWCA, when I opened a can of Spaghettios for him. I have also day-tripped the Fenske area a bit.
I'm glad you did the larger route and reported on it. Thanks.

Thanks for the report! I have a special attachment to that area and have been on all the lakes you covered the first day, but never paddled the lakes you were on the second day. I have hiked the Bass Lake Trail many times. Do you know the story of the moraine between Bass and Low Lakes bursting in the 1920s and Bass dropping 30 feet overnight? That sandy-gravely wash where you landed on Low for the portage to Bass is the wash of moraine material that went flooding out.
I was confused by the dates on your report, whether it was June or July, but given the blueberries, I take it it was July. So was the first day Monday July 5? I was up there for the 4th of July weekend and can tell you that the water rose several inches on some of the lakes you were on overnight between the 3rd and the 4th.

Good report. I've been in this area many times. I think Tee Lake is beautiful. I've fished it several times and have caught bass, none of any size, but plenty of action. Also fished Grassy many times and caught some big bass out of Grassy. I was in the Low, Range River, Grassy area back in early June. Scott over at Echo Trail Outfitters told me once that he thinks fishing and canoeing is better on those lakes as he thinks they get less pressure than the BWCAW. He says that most people come up and want to go into the B-Dub rather than the border lakes.

We did a day trip of the Bass to Fenske loop 2 weeks ago. It was first time for my son and wife in canoe country. They loved it ( well except my wife didn't care for paddling through lily pads) and are ready to go back and do a real canoe trip!

The river calmly flows, Through shining banks, through lonely glen, Where the owl shrieks, though ne'er the cheer of men Has stirred its mute repose, Still if you should walk there, you would go there again.
