Ok...I didn't know who to ask so I'm putting it out there. I will be traveling in the Quetico/BWCA in late summer and I have some questions about women and menstration up in the north words. I am an experienced camper/canoer but have some concerns.
I know this may sound silly, but I have heard that bears are particularly attracted to and are active to pest near menstrating women. I know that there is rumor of particular attacks which focused on mensruating women.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there is any truth to this tale?
Thank you :)

As someone who has been in a camp far away from civilization with a woman who was having the problem you describe, I couldn't begin to imagine how horrible a bear attack would be.
The fight would be short, one sided, gruesome, and merciless. On the plus side, bear skin rugs look great in front of a fire place, and there is no reason that you have to tell your friends the real story of how you got it.
That's it. Nothing valuable to contribute, just cheap sophomoric humor. Apologies in advance to all offended.
I remmber my girlfriend having some very similar concerns on her first couple adventures into the great north, she actually found a forum dedicated to women in the wild. You can check it out at http://forums.backpacker.com/forum.jsp?forum=17 I hope this helps, I know that it gave her some good advice and some peace of mind.
