Ok. Now that I made (or thought I made) my final decision, I've come across a new route, and I'd like your opinion :)

So, my entry point this past summer was at the east end of Lac La Croix. I did a tow-in to take advantage of the solitude as quickly as possible. I'm planning next summer's route , and I also wanted to enter from the west side. I was planning on going south, southeast, and up into Aargo, back down and into Basswood to exit. I was at Aargo this past June, and THIS place was amazing!

But now, I'm reading about Kawnipi, the Falls chain, the Saganagons, and the size of the fish up there. I guess what I'm asking is wind-wise...what do you all think...should I generally plan my route so that I generally head with the prevailings or against? Doesn't Kawnipi run from southwest to northeast? And if so, would its northwestern shore protect/shelter me?

I appreciate any comments!

Tay :)

I think you have to make your choice based not on wind but what you are looking for in the trip. If you want fishing and solitude you will want to go the Falls Chain route no doubt. It really doesn't get any better than that even with the no live bait rule this year you should still find some big fish and lots of them. You will have some wind crossing Cache Bay just use your head and you will be fine. Its worth the work. Kawnipi/Upper Saganagons is as good as it gets unless you decide to make the once in a lifetime trip into Mack. Have fun

I believe you will find more people over on the east side!
Good Luck!
