I love those solo report's. Am wanting to do one so a little envious.
Here are my favorite quote's from you.
"The vote was unanimous so off I went." (Solo, Unanimous LOL :)
"I felt like Indiana Jones in the last crusade taking that "leap of faith".
"I contemplated fishing, but I was cold, wet, and tired."
I liked it very much and the description of the trip helped me to feel like Iwas there living it with you. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks TB. I'm going on my first solo to the BWCA (EP 38) on May 18, so I took special interest in your really good trip report. I plan on 7 days in and I hope I can be as descriptive as you.
By the way; how were the bugs?

I'm waiting for the bug report too... First skeeters this past weekend in the cities. Now rain, so expect more soon. How about up north?
Thanks for the report - jealous of your trip.

Sorry I left that out.
The flying ones were non-existent during my trip. But consider the fact that I only really had 1 day where they even had a chance to be a nuisance. Either it was cool, raining or extraordinarily windy most of the time so......
The one bug that was a particular nuisance. Woodticks. The portage to Peter coming from Gabimichigami was bad. Also the portage out of Lil' Sag to Virgin. I had at least a dozen or more on my pant legs after each of these. Was just a matter of taking a little time to brush them all off at the end of the trail.
Basically. Areas that were heavily burnt by the fires, & that had longer grass along the trails were the main trouble spots.
Thanks to all for the nice comments!

wahoojim1,
I will most likely be exiting EP #38 on that same day, May 18. Will be coming back from the Wine & Mesaba area to the north of Sawbill.
Probably an incredible longshot? Don't know your route. But if you're headed that way & we cross paths? I'd be happy to share what we experienced.
I'll be captaining The Black Pearl. So if you see her on the water or portage, feel free to stop and say hi.

Great report! Thanks for sharing.
I've stayed on Tuscarora many times and hope to get back again soon, the site you stayed at is one of my favorites, great fishing between there and the portage.
Last year I finally caught some of those Missing Link Brookies, what a blast!

TB,
My first trip ever was into Tuscarora to S Arm to Seagull. I remember that portage like yesterday into Tusc from Missing Link. I was with another teacher and 6 teenage male students. I also remember paddling around the corner and whitecaps splashing us in the face as we paddled across the lake. I also remember thinking I was nuts to agree with so that called vacation/fishing trip. After a couple of days I was hooked and have been back to BWCA many times.
Nice trip reports. Thanks for sharing.

Nice. Thanks a lot.
I haven't been in that area in many, many years. I think it may be time for a revisit.
Seeing moss growing inside the firegrate is a sure sign that the site isn't used much. My best one was a small tree that was growing up through the grate. :)

Thanks for the recon report!!! We are heading that way in late June but we are doing it backwards and pushing through to the Mugwump PMA.
We were also planning on the French Toast Breakfast but instead opted for an earlier start.

Great report! we are doing the #52 EP loop to Gilis and back through Tuscarora #51 in a week.
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.
