Hey Everybody ~
This is my first time on this message board and I'm glad to have found it. I am planning a special honeymoon trip for this coming August and would love some suggestions from you experts out there.

I have done some guiding out of Bearskin Lake with teens several times and a few of my own trips in the Quetico and BWCA. My fiance has never been up to G-d's country and I want to plan something very special.

If any of you have ideas of ultra remote and ultra majestic routes that might include waterfalls, minimal fire regrowth, active wildlife, etc. I would appreciate it. We are willing to go for the plane drop with canoes, areas like the Apostles, etc.

It might be nice to leave the wedding and head to a nice lodge than begin our trip the next day. We're thinking of a ten day route, with one or two base camping options and doesn't include a great deal of milage. :) No we're not lazy, it's just that we'll be on our honeymoon!

Yes I am aware that all of our beautiful north woods is a hidden treasure but do you have any further hiddens in this treasure of ours?

Thanks! LIBA, Minneapolis

Hey
I don't know if you have found that dream trip yet, but first of all get a book called The Boundary Waters Canoe Area by Robert Beymer. It comes with a map and lake portage and trip distances. It gives you sights to see and points of intrest. Lets you know how long the trips take and how it rates to your level of ability. Stay away from Lake One and Moose Lake entry points on the west side and Brule on the east side. Too popluar.

With that info you should have a good start in finding what you want in a trip

Not apposile like, but trail lake is almost always deserted. There are two sites on the lake, one is bad, the other (northern one) is my favorite site of the fourty or so I've slept at. It has a very cozy feel to it. Like a few other sites it supports a dedicated snapping turtle that will happily finish off any fish scraps you have. His name is Gunther, tell him hello for me. You could head north out of sawbill (loooong portage) and be there in a day or so, or head south from various other entry points.

Congratulations on finding a woman willing to brave the BWCA!

Max L.
