I am trying to plan a short trip with no Angleworm type portages. I am thinking of doing Quetico and maybe even a fly-in and canoe out or even fly-out as well. I really want to get away and catch some fish with some walleyes for sure. Clay lake looks a tad long but the river idea sounds nice. I am planning on the last week of August so we can hit the MN State Fair but could go the last day and then canoe.

Thanks for your time. :)

Out of Prairie Portage the Man Chain area is remote, scenic with good fishing and no killer portages.

Figure a full day out of PP. Same area, Emerald, and Plough are very nice as well.

If you go this way I can provide more details and a suggested loop.

Nice Man Chain report. It does look like alot of mini portages with a few workers. Being it's a short trip I really want to limit the travel time and hence the day from moose. I am thinking like 12 total portages but have done Angleworm so can handle pretty much anything. Can I do something like that from moose?

Do Tow boats go to Cache point? Good late season fishing? I would rather not spend the a whole day of travel more than 8 hours. Cache to Saganagons? Is the Falls Chain more work then Man? LOL This is foolish but the water is traveling south right? Big lakes or rivers better for late season walleye versus the small lakes?

Fly-inn ideas welcomed! Clay really interests me. Can it be done in 5 with a tow boat pickup? How many miles is it? We can paddle along ways in a day. Other opitons appreciated. We can make alot of distance but the fishing better be worth it..lol

Woah that's enough outta me for now.. Getting a tad excited. Dang lost my moose maps. Have so many others but need to buy a few now. Never can have to many dream toys..

Saganagons is a good idea for a short trip and great fishing. I did hear that there are some Fly ins this year to Mack lake. I don't know if you have heard of Mack but it may be the finest fishing lake in the park. Call Seagull Outfitters to see if this is still an option
