I enjoy filtered water from the nearby lake. When I'm feeling kinda crazy I'll mix in a little Crystal Light Lemonade to cut the dust. When I run out of Crystal Light I often open a bottle of expensive burbon....and enjoy.
O.K. - One more cast...

I'm a kool-aid man myself. I just like to enjoy these types of experiences alcohol free. Don't get me wrong, Injoy a drink, beer or glass of wine once in a while back home. Just something about the wilderness causes me to not want to trug along the alcohol. Perhaps I also like to set an example for those with me, showing that booze doesn't have to be a part of everything that a person does.

This past summer we created the ultimate cocktail to sip around the campfire. It's called a crooked lake Martini - It consists of 2 parts Canadian Wiskey to 1 part lemonade/koolaide/whatever you are mixing your lake water with! Dark rum would work well I am sure.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

I have tried bringing Pusser's rum in the past, but I have discovered that it isn't worth the trouble. With the heathens I paddle in with, good rum is pearls before swine.
We have a small jug that we always bring in and everyone pools their booze into one big communal "wapatui" (I have no idea where the word comes from, but it is used loosely by us to mean a batch of brew that is made with koolaid and whatever booze is handy.) Mixing good rum in a wapatui is a losing proposition since it is impossible to appreciate mixed in with other booze and alchohol.
What I do bring in now is a Bacardi 151. The reasoning is that mixed with Koolaid it isn't so bad and it packs the most wallop for the weight.
Actually though - despite what my previous comments would seem to indicate - we take it kind of easy. Hangovers stink when surrounded by every modern convenience and they really stink in the bwca.

I usually like to relax, and experience the outdoors naturally. However, sometimes I do enjoy having an evening night cap. Usually I like to bring vodka, since it mixes with so many things without changing the taste. We usually bring Crystal light, and we bring about 5 or 6 different flavors. Mixing other things gets a little iffy for me.
Last year, one of my funnest trips yet, after visiting the falls and paddling across the lake, it was so hot, that we decided to take a swim. We paddled out to a really cool, round and yet flat rock, for our swim. It was not far from camp. While we were swimming, we tried to decide what the meal for dinner was going to be. Too many choices, so we decided to make only one. We decided that our after swim drink would be Tequila. (Which made for a fun night).
Since we had plenty of tequila, limes and salt, we all proceeded to have salt, then tequila then the lime. We stood in a circle, pouring for the next person in line,
while they dabbed salt on their hand, and had their lime ready. We had a big group, it was early, and we proceeded to finish all the tequila and all the limes.
I know that it sounds kind of different for the BWCA, but after finishing the tequila, we instantly knew what to make for dinner. It was going to be Mexican Night, and we already had the Tequila. We had spanish rice, with freeze dried home made burrito mix. This was good, and it was spicy. It hit the spot! I think everyone turned in early that night, but what a night to remember.
I will chat again.

Crystal light (assorted falvors) Stoli vodka is a camp favorite. I like to do Bacardi Limon and Crystal light. It goes with about everything. For the oz. counters, Bacardi 151 gives you the best bang for the weight. A small bottle is all you need. Mix with care, you don't need to put in much to make a good beverage. I had a friend end in bad shape the next day because he didn't heed my warning.

151 is a good mixer...with crystal light or kool aid or whatever.
We almost always bring a "box" of wine. Just remove the box and you have space age bag o' wine. We use most of it for a toast after our first dinner - because it is heavy on those 200 rodders...then the rest for cooking with for the rest of the trip.
Cheers!

I like to fill a Nalgene bottle with dried apricots, then pour in enough peach schnapps to cover them. I do this the night before we start the trip, then by the time we have finished dinner at our first camp the apricots are all set for a nice dessert, aka "booze food"

My girlfriend just got back from a cruise to cancun etc... brought back some mango rum... that is unbelievable, and some Amarula that makes coffee taste better than it should... Both will be going in with us in June... That is if they last that long... ha ha

for around the fire, we usually bring Jameson...nothing like sipping some whiskey after a long day.
we also usually pack a bit of cask-n-cream brandy to dose the coffe/tea on cold mornings...a little kick never hurt before a long day of paddling!

Plus Guiness is intended to be enjoyed closer to room temp to enjoy it, not ice cold-another advantage it has over domestic beers.

Last year when we went to Insula the group of guys that camped near us packed in 4 cases of beer in cans. I doubt if they packed them out. I think it happens more that we realize, but there are those kind wherever you go. As long as most of us observe the rules it will continue to be a pristine area.
I like a jug of single malt scotch if you please.

Wow-Thats cool. I wonder how it tastes??? Just think-mix it with your favorite powderd drink mix prior to leaving and just add water. That will save alot of weight for some.
